Quis Afi[edit]

Jestin Marquis Willard (born September 4, 1997), better known by his stage name Quis Afi, is an American DJ, music producer, singer, and song writer from Leimert Park, CA.

Early life[edit]

Quis Afi was born in 1997 in Pasadena, California, to a nurse mother, and a father, who works as a teacher and musician. His older brother is Joon of rap group Overdoz.. When he was young, his family often moved back and forth between Altadena, California and Los Angeles, where he grew up. Raised in a home of musicians he took after his father early on, who he watched produce music up until he was 11 years old, at that point teaching himself music production based upon everything he observed.

Music career[edit]

2008–2018: early career[edit]

Afi started producing music at the age of 11 all while taking piano and guitar lessons as a child. While attending grade school, he met friends Cxld Speech and Ninetysevensuave whom he would reunite with later in college to form art and music collective Thrifty Drugs and begin to craft a new sound. After many Guitar Center visits with his father, he soon crafted the skills to ask for his own turntables and this would set the foundation of him perfecting his craft. He began producing and taking gigs as a DJ at age 11, which set the foundation for performing around Los Angeles playing everything from family parties, kickbacks, and even school events at Crenshaw High School. Afi also attended Pasadena City College where he studied art and science. Growing up around a family thriving in music, his father a respected musician in the industry, his grandmother a member of The Waters family group recognized in the film 20 Feet from Stardom, and his brother a member of American hip hop group Overdoz., Smiley was born into a life filled with music so it was second if not first nature. Moving schools was apart of his growth attending Eliot Middle School, Blair Middle School, and View Park Prep. He specializes in producing, recording, DJing, and mixing. He taught himself to produce using Reason Studios, and then later moving to FL Studio and Ableton Live. He dabbles in every type of genre but has mastered the genres of Hip Hop and R&B, as it is in his bloodline, and has toured with other South Central natives, such as Overdoz., and produced albums for Six Sev, Yung Kazi, and more. Often selecting sounds in Leimert Park, Los Angeles as a DJ at Harun Coffee, Hot & Cool Cafe, or the annual Leimert Park Rising Juneteenth celebration. Smiley prides himself in uplifting his community through his music while using sound as a form of healing. Afi soon began uploading his own DJ mixes[1], remixes, and songs onto SoundCloud in 2014 under names Ugh Smiley & Poshily, remixing songs by Disclosure, Partynextdoor, and more. Beginning August in 2015 he was the DJ for the Overdoz. Last Kiss Tour and even produced songs "New Ish" & "High All Week" in 2016–2018.

2019–present: Sunstone & Maeze[edit]

Afi has produced on debut albums Sevshaw by Six Sev released on July 2019 and Yung Kazi's Don't Be Afraid of The Night released on August 2019. In September 2021 Afi released a visual instrumental beat tape album SUNSTONE under name dj kabakaba and Drum & Bass album Maeze under name Aphaceon under record label Ancient Modern. He also produced tracks "Frozone Part I", "Frozone Part II", and "Papyrus" on Six Sev's album Give Thanks with additional production and instruments by Terrace Martin, Duante St. Louis, and Eric "Bobo" Correa released on February, 22 2022. His first official single with vocals "One Night" released March of 2022 on the record label Elegant Chaos.
