Milgram (styled in all caps) (Japanese: ミルグラム, Hepburn: Miruguramu) is an interactive multimedia project made by Deco*27 and Takuya Yamanaka with animation provided by OTORIO. The project is split into 3 segments- called trials. The first trial started in April 2020, and ended in March 2022. The second trial started in August 2022 and is predicted to end in Spring 2024. The project takes place in a prison, named Milgram, in which 10 murderers are taken into the prison and must be judged based on the fact if their crime justifiable or not. The story uses an audience surrogate to base its judging, and the trials are decided entirely via audience vote.
The basis of Milgram is using deductive reasoning to judge a set of murderers. Milgram is only able to show these crimes via music video and audio drama with questions answered by the character via X during their voting period. This leaves the bulk of the media heavily based in theorization, analysis, and deductive reasoning due to the amount of information given every trial.

Plot[edit]

The series follows Es[a] a 15 year old prison guard whose forgotten their memory, and is to keep an eye on the 10 prisoners inside of the prison, named Milgram, who are all murderers in some way. Es is also tasked with finding out what the prisoners real motives and murders are, and if they are innocent or guilty.

The series opens with a video in which Jackalope, Es' so-called caretaker, is introducing them to Milgram, the prison, as well as the trial system, explaining you can vote innocent or guilty, once per day, and at the end of each trial they'll tally up all the votes. The final vote of each trial predicts how that prisoner will be treated in the next trial. The decision also affects the songs that come out in each trial. After explaining the trial system, Jackalope gives Es a tour of the prison and it's facilities. It's set up in a dome shaped panopticon, with 12 cells, which is how each prisoner gets their number.[1]
