From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is a list of awards and nominations received by the Canadian teen drama franchise Degrassi from 1987–1992, comprising Degrassi Junior High (1987–89) and Degrassi High (1989–91), the second and third entries of the franchise.

Degrassi Junior High aired for three seasons and 42 episodes on the CBC from 18 January 1987 to 27 February 1989, and Degrassi High for two seasons and 28 episodes from 6 November 1989 to 28 February 1991. Both were created by Kit Hood and Linda Schuyler, and follow an ensemble cast of students attending the fictional titular school as they deal with many coming-of-age issues. Degrassi High is a direct continuation of Degrassi Junior High, with the same cast now high school students.

According to Schuyler's autobiography The Mother of All Degrassi, Degrassi Junior High won 37 awards, while Degrassi High won 10, the majority at various film and television festivals. These include an International Emmy Award for the Junior High episode "It's Late", which depicted teen pregnancy. In 1988, Junior High won four Gemini Awards, including one for actor Pat Mastroianni, as well as the inaugural Multiculturalism Award. In 1990, nineteen cast members were nominated for a Young Artist Award.
