Draft:List of Canadian singles charts and number ones

RPM should be the default Canada chart used, but I think only until August 1988. The fact that The Record Retail Singles was republished in Billboard and its CHR chart republished in Radio & Records cannot be ignored. Regardless, article titles like List of number-one singles of 1996 (Canada) are highly disingenuous. Just because RPM issues are digitally available shouldn't mean it's considered the only chart. These article titles must be changed back to RPM, not "Canada".

One could argue that Billboard Canada All-Format Airplay which began almost a year earlier than the Canadian Hot 100 is certainly more representative of the more popular songs than the physical-only Canadian Singles Chart was during that time. This should be changed too I think.

Multi-metric

RPM 100 (Mar 21, 1966 – Sep 3, 1988)

The September 3, 1998, issue of RPM was the last to include retail sales as a metric and the chart became wholly on radio airplay.

Archived on Billboard.com at "Canadian Digital Song Sales" in artist chart histories. The positions are taken directly from magazine issues, meaning songs that peaked below 20 are not listed and "weeks on chart" do not reflect true chart performance.

RPM (June 22, 1964 – Mar 14, 1966 / Sep 10, 1988 – Nov 6, 2000)

From the September 10, 1988, issue of RPM, the RPM 100 Singles no longer included retail sales as a metric and the chart was based wholly on radio airplay.
