The Gaza Strip has suffered heavy civilian casualties from bombardment since the beginning of the war.[1] The Ministry of Health in Gaza reported that, as of 17 October, at least 3,000 Palestinians, including 853 children and 936 women had been killed, while around 12,500 others had been injured.[2] In the West Bank, related violence since the start of the conflict had killed 61 Palestinians and wounded at least 300.[3] In addition, between 24-26 people have been killed in Lebanon.[citation needed]

On the other hand the Israeli Defense Forces estimated on 10 October that the bodies of approximately 1,000 Palestinian militants had been found inside Israel.

Several Hamas leaders have been reported killed.[4] On October 9th, an airstrike in Rafah killed a local armed group leader.[5] The following day, on October 10th, the head of Hamas's National Relations Office, Zakaria Abu Muammar, was reportedly killed in Khan Yunis.[6] On October 11th The IDF confirmed the death of Jawad Abu Shamala, who served as Hamas's economy minister, in a drone strike.[7][8] Further, on October 14th, the IDF announced the killing of Hamas's head of aerial operations, Murad Abu Murad, in an overnight airstrike.[9][10] On October 16th, another member of the Hamas political bureau, Osama Mazini, was killed in an airstrike at his home.[11]

In addition to the targeted strikes on Hamas leaders, there were also reports of mass casualties resulting from an airstrikes on the Jabalia Camp, where at least 50 people were killed.[12]
