Emily Kark (born Emily Jaspan; 15 February 1913 – 8 January 2006) was a medical doctor and Senior Lecturer in social medicine and public health. She and her husband, Sidney Kark, led the development of what became known as community oriented primary care (COPC). This began in the early 1940s when they established a community health centre in Pholela, an impoverished area in the province of KwaZulu Natal, South Africa. Their work was later used as a model to shape community health centres in many countries.[1]
