Draft:Brown Rudnick

  • Comment: The notability is close, but not enough.
There are also some issues with original research and non-neutral phrasing.
For example, "The firm's history dates back to the 1940s when Jewish lawyers faced discrimination and were not welcomed into the partnership of white-shoe law firms." makes a connection not made by the cited source. In fact, the source does not even mention this firm in its text.
"In 1946, Harris Berlack, Carlos Israels and James Liberman founded Berlack Israels & Liberman in New York City, growing into a prominent bankruptcy and corporate restructuring firm.[6]" - Cited to a paid column. The word "Prominent" should be only used in an attributed format sourced to an independent source.
Another example: "In 2001, Brown Rudnick established the Brown Rudnick Center for the Public Interest, combining the firm’s pro bono, charitable giving and community volunteer efforts.[15]"
Buzzword-ridden prose sourced to the firm's own website.
As for notability, these three sources come close: [1] and [2] - while they has some good coverage, some of it is just churnalism.
[3] short piece about a routine move. Nothing in-depth sadly.
Remember that interviews of the CEO, paid articles, press releases, and the company's website does not establish notability as they are not considered independent. Ca talk to me! 03:28, 4 October 2023 (UTC)

Brown Rudnick is an international law firm with offices in Boston, Hartford, Irvine, London, New York and Washington, D.C. The firm is a limited liability partnership with approximately 250 lawyers. The firm is prominent in the practice areas of bankruptcy, litigation and corporate transactions.[1][2][3][4] Brown Rudnick was ranked 140 in The American Lawyer's Am Law 200 in 2023. The 2023 National Law Journal NLJ 500 also ranked the firm 205 in the U.S., based on size.[5]

History[edit]

The firm was founded in 1948 in Boston as Rome, Brown, Rudnick & Freed. In 1958, the firm combined with Gesmer & Geller to become Brown Rudnick Freed & Gesmer.[6] In 2002, the firm merged with Berlack Israels & Liberman, establishing today's firm.[7][8] In 2013, the firm opened an office in California when it merged with litigation boutique Rus, Miliband & Smith.[9] In 2022, the firm elected Vincent Guglielmotti CEO and chair.[10]

Notable Cases[edit]

Brown Rudnick successfully defended Johnny Depp, as plaintiff, in the John C. Depp, II v. Amber Laura Heard case.[11] The team was led by partners Benjamin Chew and Camille Vasquez.[12][13][14][15][16] The trial was held in Fairfax County, Virginia, from April 11 to June 1, 2022, and ruled on allegations of defamation between formerly married American actors Johnny Depp and Amber Heard. On June 1, 2022, after nearly two days of deliberations, the jury found that Depp had proven all the elements of defamation for all three statements from Heard's 2018 op-ed,[17] including that the statements were false, and that Heard defamed Depp with actual malice.[18][19] The jury awarded Depp $10 million in compensatory damages and $5 million in punitive damages from Heard. The punitive damages, however, were reduced to $350,000 due to a limit imposed by Virginia state law. In December 2022, both parties reached a settlement and dropped their appeals.[20][21][22] The livestreamed trial attracted large numbers of viewers and considerable social media response.[23][24] The trial was featured in a 2023 three-part documentary series Depp v. Heard released internationally by Netflix in August 2023.[25][26]
