August 2007[edit]

It would be helpful if the links on this page included, in parentheses, the rating or featured article status of the requested articles. (since recording a featured article is good, and recording a requested article is good, but recording a featured and requested article is even better, no? 24.90.17.134 06:02, 1 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

That's not possible, due to the way categories work. However there is a list of spoken articles somewhere, which does have the type of notation you're referring to. ·:· Will Beback ·:· 06:39, 1 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
That list is here. Hassocks5489 19:52, 4 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

September 2013[edit]

2013-09-08 Notice that many requests were put in by now retired user GVnayR on what some would call trivial articles about historic video games and women's clothing. Should be cleaned up, there's probably a faster way than clicking on all 200+ requests. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.180.244.240 (talk) 07:58, 8 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Not every article so requested is minor, so I don't think the list can or should be wholesale removed. For example, McDonald's should have a spoken version. If the requests need trimmed, it needs done on a case-by-case basis. —C.Fred (talk) 16:38, 8 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The "Talk:"-prefix[edit]

Can it be removed? I was first under the impression that these were requests for audio-versions of Talk-pages. Jontajonta (talk) 00:06, 22 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I think that it links to the Talk-pages because that is where the request is placed. --Galenanderson (talk) 07:18, 23 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Cleaning out unsuitable articles[edit]

Previously, an IP address user complained that there were an excessive number of minor articles by requested by User:GVnayR. User:C.Fred mentioned that "If the requests need trimmed, it needs done on a case-by-case basis."

I wrote a script with pywikibot to scan for articles contributed by GVnayR and articles that are stubs (including ones not requested by GVnayR). Below are the results.

I've looked through most of the articles in the list individually, and it seems most of the stub articles should probably be removed (they're too short to be meaningfully recorded, and would likely change a lot before they eventually become long enough). Some of the articles requested by GVnayR are definitely worth keeping (e.g. Great Recession, McDonald's, and Walmart). I've tried to place them in a separate list. This is obviously somewhat subjective, so to mitigate this I've tried to be as generous as possible (keeping 2/3 of the articles in question). I looked for articles that had quite a few major issues (Grand River land dispute), were of niche interest (Dirty Harry (1990 video game)), were in a format that would be painful to record (EarthBound is a disambiguation page), etc. Most of the old video-game pages are in the blacklist. In addition, some of GVnayR's articles are extremely short despite not being in any stub categories (Nanticoke Refinery).

Let me know if there are any articles are blacklisted that shouldn't be. Once there's consensus on which particular pages should be removed, I can remove them in an automated fashion with pywikibot. AllenZh (talk) 21:27, 8 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I reviewed each article in this list and removed most of the requests from both User:GVnayR and User:Lionsdude148. There used to be over 500 articles listed, but I managed to reduce the number to 267. That was an insane amount of requests. Prior to looking at this talk page, I uploaded a dozen of audio recordings that probably shouldn't have been made in the first place. --Walk Like an Egyptian (talk) 00:45, 25 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@AllenZh: Pinging just in case you haven't seen my response yet. --Walk Like an Egyptian (talk) 10:42, 18 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, thanks for your help! Hopefully this will make this category more actionable. AllenZh (talk) 05:58, 19 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
