The motivation for setting up this category was that Wikipedia seemed to be lacking an umbrella category for notable sources of ebooks. Not just for retailers, but free sources (WikiBooks!), distributors, aggregators, charitably-funded educational projects, and forthcoming library ebook lending projects. This sort of category would be interesting not just for people who want to get hold of ebooks, but for people interested in or working in the ebook industry (or conventional publishing) who want an overview of who's who and who the major players are, as well as some of the more notable interesting smaller players.

We already have specific categories for ebook formats and ebook hardware, but the supply-chain section of the industry (which is kinda muddy and prone to sudden changes right now!) could do with its own category, too.

PS: since ebook sales are expected to overtake book sales in a few years time, and since there's a comparatively small number of organisations involved, I personally think that the "notability" criteria for an ebook project, company or organisation are automatically lower than they'd be for conventional publishers and book suppliers and the like. Ebooks are a matter of great interest for a lot of people, for a lot of reasons, and what happens now is liable to shape the whole future of the industry. So it'd be nice if Wikipedia's coveragle tended towards the inclusive rather than the exclusive. IMO. ErkDemon (talk) 18:00, 5 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Category name[edit]

Yeah, I know that "Ebooks sources" isn't a very exciting title. Alternative suggestions welcome. ErkDemon (talk) 18:02, 5 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
