"student life" sections in Oxford Colleges pages[edit]

A number of the pages on individual Oxford colleges have "student life" sections, generally full of unsourced and low-importance information, sometimes possibly frivolous. I don't have the motivation to go through all of them myself, but they could do with a somewhat ruthless cull, with the aim of strictly implementing policy so as to make the articles more like encyclopaedia articles and less like excerpts from a student guide to Oxford. — Alan 18:34, 15 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed that much of the material under these subheadings may well not be appropriate, but some of it is encyclopaedic and indeed vital to an understanding of what makes a college different from its neighbours. For example, it's worth noting Jesus' ongoing Welsh connections, surely? I'd be wary of undertaking a mass campaign to scythe great chunks off all the articles without seeking a consensus on the individual talk pages, especially where they have undergone substantial peer review etc. to achieve Featured Article or Good Article status. That's not to say that there aren't improvements to be made though, and if you feel you can improve individual articles you should get stuck in! —Casper Gutman (talkcontributions) 14:26, 18 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
