If this category is supposed to represent native UK'ers who are now living in America, the contents are all wrong. If it's supposed to represent Americans of Anglo ethnic origin, it's going to get enormous really quickly. · Katefan0(scribble) 15:48, 17 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]
It's supposed to be both, I believe. Right now it's restricted to people of English origin only - i.e. no Welsh, Irish, Scottish (those have their own pages), so it may not get that big. I think we should leave it, we have "something-American" pages for every single ethnic group out there, so why not this one. It's not the English-Americans' fault that there are so many of them, and "too many" is hardly an excuse to delete something, as long as it's accurate. Anyway, I'm gonna monitor this page and the additions to it, like I do most of the other ethnic pages, I'll make sure only people who are 1/4 English or more are on it. So Keep.24.141.149.226
The two main arguments put forward in support of deletion - that it will get enormous really quickly and that nobody uses the term - are mutually contradictory. So far it has grown at less than 15 articles a month. Size is an argument for subdivision, not deletion, or categories like Category:American musicians would be at the top of the list for deletion, which would be absurd. Please explain how this is not entirely cruft? I mean, I get recent émigrés to America from England, but some putz who says their great granpappy came over after thr Blitz is a bit much. I suggest we filter these results to note only those folk who have emigrated to the US during their lifetimes only. I've looked at a few of the related categories, and see no similar comments to this one from you, so on the face of it you are simply implying that English ancestry is (uniquely) of no value - a blatantly racist assumption that is disgustingly common among liberals. There should be some minimum requirement, such as 1/4. It shouldn't matter whether the person was born in England or whether his family have been in the US for generations.
