Classification Info[edit]

I've replaced the classification info that was removed at the same time that this category page was recategorized from Category:American singers to Category:American singers by ethnicity, on 04 January 2006. I also updated the classification to be consistent with the new categorization.

In the absence of any note on the discussion page, I'm assuming that the removal of the classification was either accidental or was because it was no longer up-to-date with the new parent categorization, rather than that there was anything objectionable, or out-of-line with WP:MOS, in the presence of the classification itself. Should it be otherwise, please discuss here. Thanks, LiniShu 04:42, 5 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Dr. Dre/Mary J. Blige[edit]

How do I add people to the list of African Americans? It lacks Dr. Dre!...and Mary J. Blige!! It also doesn't have Janet Jackson, she is the second best selling of the Jacksons.

Category for Deletion[edit]

I beleive that this sub-category should be deleted in line with the rationale used to delete similar categories where American singers were listed by ethnic origins in sub-categories. Either all ethnic origins should be acceptable as sub-categories under the main category of American singers or none sould be. XX-American Singers can have value to researchers but in the interest of equality there has to be one rule for all. Categories: Jewish-American Singers, Irish American Singers, Mexican-American singers have all been deleted and the Category African-American singer should be treated the same. The category was proposed for deletion in 2006 but action was not followed-up even though the time-frame has elapsed and there was no discussion or objections raised regarding it's deletion.09:47, 22 July 2007 (UTC)
