The German political family Maizière (or de Maizière) [də mɛˈzjɛʀ] is named for the village Maizières-lès-Metz in France. As Huguenots, the family had to emigrate from France to Prussia in the 17th century. Its most notable member is Lothar de Maizière, the last Prime Minister of the German Democratic Republic.
