Cardiovascular disease in Nepal

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Cardiovascular disease is rising in Nepal. More than 27% of total mortalities is attributed to cardiovascular disease in Nepal.[1] The problem his worsened by lack of health infrastructure, geographical difficulties, a weak economy, and a low literacy rate. Prevalence of cardiovascular risk factor is particularly high among healthy adults in urban area as per a study conducted by Om Murti Anil in Kathmandu in 2014.[2]

According to the Nepal Health Research Council and the World Health Organization, cardiovascular diseases are one of the major components of non-communicable diseases that kill two-thirds of Nepalese people.[3] Improvements in lifestyle and behavior may reduce the death rate.[4] Cardiovascular health awareness in Nepal has improved and looks promising to mitigate the burden of disease.[5]
