Brandon Coleman (born October 12, 2000) is an American football offensive tackle for the Washington Commanders of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football for the Trinity Valley Cardinals and TCU Horned Frogs prior to being selected by the Commanders in the third round of the 2024 NFL draft.

Early life[edit]

Coleman was born the son of an American military service member and a German woman in Virginia on October 12, 2000.[1] He grew up in Berlin, Germany, before attending Denton High School in Denton, Texas.[1][2][3] He did not play football growing up, but was part of a traveling basketball team as a guard.[4] In 2016, Coleman returned to the United States and began attending Denton High School, where he tried out football.[3] He began as a defensive lineman for the junior varsity team and then became an offensive lineman on the varsity as a senior.[3]

College career[edit]

Coleman began his collegiate career with the Trinity Valley Cardinals of Trinity Valley Community College in 2019, appearing in seven games.[3][5] He was ranked a three-star junior college recruit and the eighth offensive tackle nationally by 247Sports, committing to play for the TCU Horned Frogs in 2020.[2]

Coleman played in the first four games of the 2020 season at TCU before his year ended due to injury.[3] He became a starter in 2021, finishing the season with 11 games played, eight as a starter.[6] He started all 15 games in 2022 and helped the team have one of the best offenses nationally while reaching the national championship, being named honorable mention All-Big 12 Conference.[4][6] Entering the 2023 season, Coleman was named to The Athletic's "Freaks" list, which noted that the 6 foot 6 inches, 320-pound Coleman "has an impressive 35-inch vertical jump and regularly runs 18 [miles-per-hour]. He squats 600 pounds, benches 400, and power-cleans 375."[7] He was selected team captain and started 11 games, being named second-team All-Big 12 and an honorable mention for conference lineman of the year while allowing only one sack.[6] He was invited to play in the 2024 Senior Bowl.[8]
