Battle of Fif al-Rih or Day of Fif al-Rih It is one of the Days of the Arabs that took place at the time of the mission of the Prophet Muhammad in Mecca, the Battle of Fayf al-Rih, which was a battle that took place in the Hijaz between Madhhaj and their allies against Banu Amir. Banu Amir tribes and their leader Amer bin Tufail raided Madhhaj, Khatham, Murad, and Zubayd, and their leader Dhu al-Ghissah al-Husain bin Yazid al-Harithi and a great slaughter was committed among them.[1][2]

Background

[edit]

There was hostility between Banu Amir bin Sa'sa'ah and Banu al-Harith bin Ka'b (one of the clans of the Yemeni tribe of Madhhaj). Al-Hussain bin Yazid bin Shaddad bin Qanan al-Harithi, (nicknamed Dhu al-Ghasah), wanted to support Banu al-Harith bin Ka'b, so he sought help from Banu Ja'fi, Zubaid, Sa'd al-'Ashirah,[3][4] Murad, and Sada' from Madhhaj, and with them the tribes of Nahd (From Quda'a), Shahrān, Nahis, and Aklab[5] from Khatham, and they made Anas bin Mudrik al-Khathami their leader.[6]

The Battle

[edit]

They set out towards Banu Amir, who were taking refuge in a place called Fif al-Rih, and Madhaj got there womens and childrens with them so that they would not flee. Banu Amir gathered, and Amir ibn al-Tufayl said to them: "Let us raid the enemies, for I hope that we will take their spoils and capture their womens, and do not let them attack you." They agreed to that and went to them. When they approached Banu al-Harith and Madhhij and those with them, their spies informed them and their elders returned to them, so they were cautious and met and fought a fierce battle for three days. Then al-Sumil ibn al-Awar al-Kalabi and Amr ibn Subaih al-Nahdi met, and Amr stabbed him. Then al-Sumil embraced his horse and returned, and a man from Khatham met him and killed him and took his armor and horse.[7][1]
