It has been suggested that this new Project overlaps with Wikipedia:WikiProject Religion. It was proposed for speedy deletion, but I have removed that template. However, perhaps you should discuss making it a sub-project or task force of Wikipedia:WikiProject Religion. --Bduke (talk) 09:03, 13 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It does indeed overlap. It's more appropriate for it to be a task force of WP Religion rather than a full WP. In any case, I think you'd have trouble in keeping the word "cult" as part of the name of the task force, as it's kind of non-[[WP:NPOV|] (what might apply to sects too). Besides, the range of themes it embraces is huge. For instance, would it be able to works effectively in articles about small groups from all major religions: Christianism and Judaism and Islam and Buddhism and Hinduism etc.? Thinking from this perspective, maybe it would be better to have this split even more, into different task forces for each of the different major-religion WikiProjects, such as Wikipedia:WikiProject Christianity and Wikipedia:WikiProject Islam, plus a generic task force, hosted inside WP Religion itself, for dealing with, well, those "other" small groups that don't fit into the more specific task forces. -- alexgieg (talk) 12:28, 13 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
A task force of WP Religion is more appropriate than a stand alone project that will probably attract POV pushers galore. ≈ jossi ≈ (talk) 14:08, 13 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
In fact, the Religion project has already stated that one of the more reasonable possible subprojects would be one dealing with new religious movements. I would think that the project would be willing to take on such a task force if there were enough interest shown in starting such a group. John Carter (talk) 15:16, 13 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Moved as sub-project ≈ jossi ≈ (talk) 16:12, 13 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Most important is that the title is clear to everybody so the title should include the word cult which is by the way also used by a significant fraction of scholars because the definition is clearer than NRM. Andries (talk) 16:18, 13 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Given the disputes around the term "cult", I see no reason why to keep this project under such a name. The scientific term is New religious movement. Wikiprojects are not soapoxes.≈ jossi ≈ (talk) 16:20, 13 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
As if the term NRM has no disputes and is clearly defined. Andries (talk) 16:21, 13 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Please discuss this at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Religion ≈ jossi ≈ (talk) 16:25, 13 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

This seems to be where the discussion has already started. I don't see any discussion at the other talk page. I think the existing title is fine, though I don't know why "sects" was removed. ·:· Will Beback ·:· 16:29, 13 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

A POV minefield indeed ... As you do not have enough of a mess at List of groups referred to as cults. Good luck in pursuing this as a project. ≈ jossi ≈ (talk) 16:35, 13 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
You're not participating? Just here to rename? ·:· Will Beback ·:· 16:50, 13 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Baptists, Buddhists, Prospertarians (sp?), Roman Catholics are all sects. Don't you think that's just a little bit broad? 199.125.109.105 (talk) 16:43, 13 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I would think "Cults and new religious movements work group" would be the best title, as it clearly links it to Category:Cults, which is the parent category of Category:New religious movements. John Carter (talk) 16:48, 13 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
One of the parents. The parents are Cults | Religion and society | Religious faiths, traditions, and movements | Sociology of religion | Study of religion 199.125.109.105 (talk) 17:12, 13 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You can't combine new apples with rotten apples in one group. 199.125.109.105 (talk) 16:53, 13 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Those are in the eye of the beholder. Why not just "New religious movements work group"? May I suggest coming to an agreement here before moving the page around more? ·:· Will Beback ·:· 16:55, 13 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Works for me. 199.125.109.105 (talk) 17:09, 13 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Wikipedia: WikiProject Religion/New religious movements work group OK with me as well. ≈ jossi ≈ (talk) 17:37, 13 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Was Andries blocked for 3RR? I don't see any response. 199.125.109.105 (talk) 18:05, 13 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
