Selection of articles for offline releases

We at WP:1.0 are testing the use of a bot to select articles for our next DVD release, based on the assessments from WikiProjects and other criteria. We have a test selection from the French military history articles here, sorted using three different formulae, and we'd appreciate your feedback. The articles are sorted according to a combination of their importance and quality (with more emphasis on importance). Can you let us know which order looks the most appropriate? We want to make sure that we end up picking the right Military History articles for the DVD. Thanks! Walkerma (talk) 02:07, 16 February 2008 (UTC)

American Revolution GA Sweeps Review: On Hold

As part of the WikiProject Good Articles, we're doing sweeps to go over all of the current GAs and see if they still meet the GA criteria and I'm specifically going over all of the "World History-Americas" articles. I have reviewed American Revolution and believe the article currently meets the majority of the criteria and should remain listed as a Good article. I have left this message at this task forces's talk page so that any interested members can assist in helping the article keep its GA status. In reviewing the article, I have found there are some issues that may need to be addressed, and I'll leave the article on hold for seven days for them to be fixed. I have left messages on the talk pages of the main contributors of the article along with other task forces/WikiProjects. Please consider helping address the several points that I listed on the talk page of the article, which shouldn't take too long to fix if multiple editors assist in the workload. If you have any questions, let me know on my talk page and I'll get back to you as soon as I can. Happy editing! --Nehrams2020 (talk) 01:45, 28 February 2008 (UTC)

As the inspiration for an upcoming video game (Velvet Assassin), I would expect her article to get a good many views in the coming months. It's currently rated as "Start" class. If it could be expanded somewhat, that would be great. cheers, xenocidic ( talk ¿ review ) 19:14, 15 May 2008 (UTC)

Changes to the WP:1.0 assessment scheme

As you may have heard, we at the Wikipedia 1.0 Editorial Team recently made some changes to the assessment scale, including the addition of a new level. The new description is available at WP:ASSESS.

  • The new C-Class represents articles that are beyond the basic Start-Class, but which need additional references or cleanup to meet the standards for B-Class.
  • The criteria for B-Class have been tightened up with the addition of a rubric, and are now more in line with the stricter standards already used at some projects.
  • A-Class article reviews will now need more than one person, as described here.

Each WikiProject should already have a new C-Class category at Category:C-Class_articles. If your project elects not to use the new level, you can simply delete your WikiProject's C-Class category and clarify any amendments on your project's assessment/discussion pages. The bot is already finding and listing C-Class articles.

Please leave a message with us if you have any queries regarding the introduction of the revised scheme. This scheme should allow the team to start producing offline selections for your project and the wider community within the next year. Thanks for using the Wikipedia 1.0 scheme! Article on Robert Nivelle on GA hold: Needs expansion before it can become GA standard.

The article on Robert Nivelle is currently on GA hold. The article requires more information about Nivelle's life, especially concerning his legacy, and his pre-WW1 service, before it can become GA-class. I would like to request that people work on addressing this issue. Your help would be greatly appreciated, and you can credit yourself with 'This user helped promote the article -- to good article status' template if the article does go up to GA status. Please try to get this information down before 7 days from now, as that is when the GA review will probably be closed. Thank you in advance. More details can be found at Talk:Robert Nivelle. Wikipedia 0.7 articles have been selected for French military history

Wikipedia 0.7 is a collection of English Wikipedia articles due to be released on DVD, and available for free download, later this year. The Wikipedia:Version 1.0 Editorial Team has made an automated selection of articles for Version 0.7.

We would like to ask you to review the articles selected from this project. These were chosen from the articles with this project's talk page tag, based on the rated importance and quality. If there are any specific articles that should be removed, please let us know at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.7. You can also nominate additional articles for release, following the procedure at Wikipedia:Release Version Nominations.

A list of selected articles with cleanup tags, sorted by project, is available. The list is automatically updated each hour when it is loaded. Please try to fix any urgent problems in the selected articles. A team of copyeditors has agreed to help with copyediting requests, although you should try to fix simple issues on your own if possible.

We would also appreciate your help in identifying the version of each article that you think we should use, to help avoid vandalism or POV issues. These versions can be recorded at this project's subpage of User:SelectionBot/0.7. We are planning to release the selection for the holiday season, so we ask you to select the revisions before October 20. At that time, we will use an automatic process to identify which version of each article to release, if no version has been manually selected. Thanks! Looking for Collaborators: French Revolution

Greetings: I propose a substantial rewrite/update to the French Revolution article. This article covers one of the most important events in Western history and en-wiki's version should be excellent. It currently incorporates Brittanica & other public domain text. Would anyone be willing to assist and collaborate on bringing the article up to GA (at a minimum), and preferably FA? I'd imagine we could divide the topic up. Lazulilasher (talk) 18:56, 10 October 2008 (UTC)

Assessment backlog

There's a backlog of nearly a hundred articles at Category:Unassessed military history articles, a great many of them within the scope of this task force. If you have a little free time, could help out please? --ROGER DAVIES talk 04:47, 16 November 2008 (UTC)

Article Request

Greetings: there was a request on the French Wikiproject's talk page for an article on the T 56 Class Destroyer. Does anyone have a background which would enable him to handle this? Regards, Lazulilasher (talk) 03:52, 20 December 2008 (UTC)

Redoing of Napoleonic Empire Map

I believe the map of Europe, of Napoleon's empire is misleading. In Napoleon Bonapatre by Alan Schom, he has a map of Europe and the status of each country. There are three catagories; Conqured "vassal" states, Conquered "allied" states and Conquered "rebellious" states. Under "vassal" there is Belgium, Holland, Savoy, Piedmont, tuscany and Corsica. Under "allied" there is Denmark, Prussia and Austria. Under "rebellious" there is Spain, the Kingdom of Naples, Kingdom of Italy, Switzerland and the Confederation of the Rhine. In addition, Schom says that Prussia, Denmark, Austria and Portugal were under military occupation by France. I think a new map should be drawn up showing the territory occupied by Napoleon's French forces before his downfall in Russia. Thoughts? Objections?-Kieran4 (talk) 02:37, 2 January 2009 (UTC)

That sounds like a useful classification to me. Nick-D (talk) 02:02, 4 January 2009 (UTC)
I agree; very useful. I wouldn't overwrite the current one, though. Instead, I'd upload a modified version. Awesome; good work! Lazulilasher (talk) 02:22, 4 January 2009 (UTC)
Here is the new map. I have added it to some of the main pages but it will be a while before the old map is gone, it is on so many pages.-Kieran4 (talk) 02:58, 4 January 2009 (UTC)

This is a notice to let you know about Article alerts, a fully-automated subscription-based news delivery system designed to notify WikiProjects and Taskforces when articles are entering Articles for deletion, Requests for comment, Peer review and other workflows (full list). The reports are updated on a daily basis, and provide brief summaries of what happened, with relevant links to discussion or results when possible. A certain degree of customization is available; WikiProjects and Taskforces can choose which workflows to include, have individual reports generated for each workflow, have deletion discussion transcluded on the reports, and so on. An example of a customized report can be found here.

If you are already subscribed to Article Alerts, it is now easier to report bugs and request new features. We are also in the process of implementing a "news system", which would let projects know about ongoing discussions on a wikipedia-wide level, and other things of interest. The developers also note that some subscribing WikiProjects and Taskforces use the display=none parameter, but forget to give a link to their alert page. Your alert page should be located at "Wikipedia:PROJECT-OR-TASKFORCE-HOMEPAGE/Article alerts". Questions and feedback should be left at Wikipedia talk:Article alerts.

Message sent by User:Addbot to all active wiki projects per request, Comments on the message and bot are welcome here.

Changes to popular pages lists

There are a few important changes to the popular pages system. A quick summary:

  • The "importance" ranking (for projects that use it) will be included in the lists along with assessment.
  • The default list size has been lowered to 500 entries (from 1000)
  • I've set up a project on the Toolserver for the popular pages - tools:~alexz/pop/.
    • This includes a page to view the results for projects, including the in-progress results from the current month. Currently this can only show the results from a single project in one month. Features to see multiple projects or multiple months may be added later.
    • This includes a new interface for making requests to add a new project to the list.
    • There is also a form to request a change to the configuration for a project. Currently the configurable options are the size of the on-wiki list and the project subpage used for the list.
  • The on-wiki list should be generated and posted in a more timely and consistent manner than before.
  • The data is now retained indefinitely.
  • The script used to generate the pages has changed. The output should be the same. Please report any apparent inconsistencies (see below).
  • Bugs and feature requests should be reported using the Toolserver's bug tracker for "alexz's tools" - [1]

WP 1.0 bot announcement

This message is being sent to each WikiProject that participates in the WP 1.0 assessment system. On Saturday, January 23, 2010, the WP 1.0 bot will be upgraded. Your project does not need to take any action, but the appearance of your project's summary table will change. The upgrade will make many new, optional features available to all WikiProjects. Milhist outreach at Wikimania 2010

This year's Wikimania takes place in Gdansk, Poland, over the weekend of 9-11 July (details). Would you be interested in attending and helping prepare a Milhist presentation, explaining how our project works for the benefit of other editors from other wikis? It is also a great opportunity to meet up with other Wikipedians and Milhisters, and explore the city itself a little. This will be of particular interest to Milhist members living within easy travelling distance of Poland, though it is bound to attract interest from others living further away. This is at early discussion stages at the moment but we only need five or six people to make it happen!

If you might be able to help, or attend, please sign up HERE.
