Seasons

Again, I'm asking if the modifications made on, for example, Serie A 2007-08 (color adding, scudetto simble...) were supported. Since I've made many seasons articles and I'm going to continue (free time permitting), should I keep on with the "season layout" that was previously decided (basically without color) or use the colors? They were not discussed, at least it's what it seems. If you don't like them, just be bold, but I do not think they are really a major issue. Personally I prefer the new colours and the scudetto, but it's just my opinion. --Angelo 13:59, 5 July 2007 (UTC)

Player Transfers

For a start, sorry for my absence with the old project. The system now implemented is prob better.

Anyways. We are seeing a lot of transfers at the moment. Problem though is the fact that a lot of people aren't completing all the work on Wikipedia to mirror these transfers.

When a transfer goes through, please remember to

1. Update the players article by nothing the new club etc.
2. Update the players article to change squad template to the new squad.
3. Remove the player from the old clubs template.
4. Add the player to the new club template.
5. Remove the player from the old clubs squad listing.
6. Add the player to the new clubs squad listing.
7. Add the player to the "Transfers" in section on the club page.

I'm noting a lot that people completely ignore the squad templates. I've also noted that a lot of squad templates do not match the squad listing on the club pages, even before the summer transfers.

Might be something to keep an eye on.

Player Articles

Here's a list of player articles that have to be completed. I'll try to get through as many of them as possible, using the standard template. When all senior players have articles, I'll focus on youth players and updating other player articles which don't have the standard infobox which adds a lot to the articles. Feel free to delete any articles which have been completed off the list, or to add new ones.

On the youth articles. For a youth player to be considered notable in Italy, he must have been in the squad for a senior match. This is different to other leagues where notability requires actually playing for the first team. THis is due to there being no League Cup in Italy.

I don't agree at all with your opinion on notability of youth players. To me they necessarily need a single presence in a first team league match to be notable. League Cup is actually present only in England and a very few other countries, so it's not a good reason at all. --Angelo 11:53, 7 July 2007 (UTC)
If I remember correctly there was a concensus on the issue a few months ago after there was a AFD on a few Inter youth players. Should we just go down the route of having players only being notable after playing a league match (not even a Cup match) ? Niall123 12:19, 7 July 2007 (UTC)
If you mean this one, it ended with a delete consensus. This other one ended with a keep consensus with only four contributing users, two of them being you and me, underlining the stature of that particular club (AC Milan). --Angelo 12:47, 7 July 2007 (UTC)

Template:Serie D

I was working on a unique Serie D template, but the separate templates where updated by Scottmsg. So, I'd like to know your opinion: it's better to have a unique template or one for each girone? CapPixel 10:18, 6 August 2007 (UTC)

Definitely better to have separate templates, we're talking about 9 gironi and 162 clubs and a unique template would be too invasive (that's why I don't like how they did in the Italian Wikipedia). --Angelo 21:12, 7 August 2007 (UTC)

pre-Serie B and Serie C leagues on same level as current ones?

It would seem that during the Italian Football Championship years (the first 30+ years of league football in the country) that there were other levels at the same time, using the Seconda Categoria and Terza Categoria names respectively.

Does anybody have more information on this? Who were the champions, what were the league table results, etc? I feel we should have articles relating to this, yet it is not mentioned anywhere on Wikipedia. - The Daddy 06:56, 10 August 2007 (UTC)

Information about that period are, unfortunately, very difficult to find without spending a lot of money on almanacs (almancs like the Almanacco Panini just cover the first division before 1929). Moreover, there were several changes in the names and level of the different championships (Italian Football Championship is just the name with whom the first league is collectively known: in the years they changed name from Prima Divisione to Prima Categoria to Divisione Nazionale). Cosenza and other football clubs name changes

After a discussion with Angelo, I take this "problems" here to ask for everyone's opinion:

  • Rende Calcio has moved to Cosenza and changed its name to Fortitudo Cosenza, trying to fill the role of the old A.S. Cosenza Calcio that has disappeared: is it better to move A.S. Cosenza Calcio's or Rende Calcio's article to Fortitudo Cosenza? I've already moved Rende Calcio's article, but I'll change the articles if the general opinion is contrary.
  • P.D. Comiso has moved from Comiso to Vittoria and fused with Junior Vittoria creating A.C.D. Città di Vittoria. Should the article on the old F.C. Vittoria be merged with it, though the new society isn't a direct heir of the old club?

GA reviews

When I put the Juventus F.C. article up for review it took ridiculously long for it to get a review (around 2 weeks), so I figured we should have a section here for people who are versed in the subject of calcio and could review any such articles. I'm waiting for S.S.C. Napoli to be done at the moment, if anyone could review it then that would be great. - The Daddy 15:04, 27 August 2007 (UTC)

Recent additions of flags and templates to Serie A & B

There seems to have been an explosion of new templates created for most of Serie A & B clubs... (ie.: Template:Udinese, Template:Treviso, etc...). The main reasoning for this, as I see it, is the addition of flags for those clubs, which then appear on players infoboxes (Alessandro Nesta), and the League templates (Template:Serie A). Most of these additions have been made by the user Laziale, (see contributions). I wanted to bring this up here, and to see how people feel about this. I, personaly, think that the addition of club flags to player's infoboxes clutters them up, creating an odd flow, (especially in those cases where there are no flags for clubs in other leagues: Adrian Mutu). It also seems to contradict WP:FLAGS#Help_the_reader_rather_than_decorate. —Stochil 14:26, 1 September 2007 (UTC)

I'm against it too. I thought the change was discussed here or in the main WikiProject Football talk page. Such templates are used on the Italian wiki "exported" them from there. CapPixel 16:33, 1 September 2007 (UTC)

List of italian champions

Hi I have read in the article List of italian champions that "Following the scandal of match-fixing and the split between the FIGC and the CCI, the Viareggio charter was drawn up to legalise professionalism, ban foreign players and rationalise the championship from its regionalised state into national leagues; the Serie A and Serie B."

These sentences are partially incorrect. The Viareggio charter was drawn up in 1926 and the scandal of match fixing occured in 1927. It's true that the Viareggio Charter rationalised the championship from its regionalised state into national leagues but it don't created the Serie A and Serie B (created in 1929); 17 Lega Nord teams and 3 Lega Sud teams were admitted to the new Divisione Nazionale Championship while the others were relegated to Prima Divisione.source

U.S. Avellino

I'm interesting in pushing to improve this article, but there is such sparse information available about their founding and other such things to work with. The most I can find anywhere is just a line that says "Avellino were founded in 1912 and joined the league in..."

Edoardo Bosio

I just came across this article: Edoardo Bosio. According to the article he was instrumental in the development of football in Italy. Surely then there must be more information available about him. Hi, I created the article. Yes he was instrumental in the development of Italian football, but unfortunetly there is not that much information available on him because the clubs he founded (including Internazionale F.C. Torino) have been disolved for over a hundred years. So most of the historical focus is instead on Genoa C.F.C. and James Richardson Spensley. - The Daddy 11:14, 17 September 2007 (UTC)

Helper need

Eccellenza Calabria and Eccellenza Puglia

Do we have a good source for the champions of every season of these divisions? This source has only a list of a few and not all of the champions, making it difficult to create a worthwhile article on those two divisions which is really needed. - Dali's Brain (talk) 07:05, 31 January 2008 (UTC)

Eccellenza was inaugurated in 1991, so that list actually includes all the champions. --Angelo (talk) 08:43, 31 January 2008 (UTC)
Well the problem with that site was that it only shows some of the results, many of the table entries are blank if you click on them. I've found another site now though, which has complete champions list.[1][2] - Dali's Brain (talk) 08:54, 31 January 2008 (UTC)

Great work on all the new Regional Eccelenza pages. I don't think all regions admit the second-placed team directly to the national playoffs. Some regions organize playoffs. I have created the list and hope it is correct, i'm adding the source back, and please use the list as one of the tools to update the footballer's article, and do some clean up and add infobox.

Italian name of cup competition

Can we change the primary name of "Super Coppa di Lega Serie C1" to "Supercoppa di Lega Serie C1"?, not just redirect page. I have edited "Supercoppa di Lega Serie C2" and "Supercoppa Primavera" already but I can't edit this page. Tontotti (talk) 16:03, 8 February 2008 (UTC)

Detailed Schedules

Are detailed schedules (for Italian Leagues only) still controversial and are subject to immediate deletion if anyone even dares to add them to the current Serie A & B pages, or makes a separate page with the schedules? I noticed that wikipedia (Italy) has no problem displaying detailed Serie A schedules or Serie B schedules.Juve2000 (talk) 22:54, 20 February 2008 (UTC)

I definitely oppose the idea of creating page solely for league schedules, whatever the league is. By the way, there's quite enough space in the season articles to include them, they're not that long. --Angelo (talk) 23:00, 20 February 2008 (UTC)
I think adding the schedule to the current pages would look better, so I agree with you entirely. My concern is that during the 2006/07 season there was much opposition to such detailed schedules which lead to their deletion. Some thought that the 20x20 schedule 'box' was good enough, while others had concerns regarding copyright regulations, so I bring the subject up here to see what others think of the idea. The copyright issue was solely a Premier League-related fact, and I can ensure you it's not a problem in Serie A's case. We probably could include them, however I think the Italian Wikipedia solution is not a good idea, as the matches in a league week are hardly played all contemporarily, so an alternate solution should be found. --Angelo (talk) 08:49, 21 February 2008 (UTC)
I suggest we set up the detailed schedule for 2008-09. I don't think the date issue should keep us from creating such an addition. Having separate dates for each of the 10 games would create too much detail in my opinion. Having one date at the top of the chart is not perfect, but better than the total lack of detail the current 20 x 20 schedule box has now. How about I/we create a detail schedule for just the first 3 match days and have editors modify them? Juve2000 (talk) 17:02, 6 August 2008 (UTC)
I don't think it's a good idea right now. The main article is not that small, and it will quickly get much larger once the season starts. Better if you create a sub-article such as Serie A 2008-09 detailed schedule (just a tentative title) with all 38 matchdays in there, instead of having a huge section in the main article. --Angelo (talk) 17:26, 6 August 2008 (UTC)

AC Bastia 1924

I inform you that A.C. Bestia 1924 has been nominated for speedy deletion because the user Theymos "don't think that it's important enough, though. The only other Serie D teams that have articles are champions." I'd like if you express your opinion if this article is enciclopedic or not. I think that this club (two Serie D championships from 1956 to 1958) is more notable than many Serie D teams that have their own article (for exemple S.S.D. Crociati Noceto (one Serie D championship). There are also teams that have never played in Serie D (but only in the lower leagues) that have their own article (for exemple U.S. Sellero Novelle 2000). It's false that "The only other Serie D teams that have articles are champions". If this page were deleted, for par condicio many Serie D teams and Sellero Novelle should be deleted.--213.140.19.116 (talk) 20:59, 8 March 2008 (UTC)

Tie-breakers vs Play-offs

I've noticed that the terms tie-breaker and play-off are used interchangeably to refer to games played after the regular season is over. I think the term 'playoff' should only be used when we know games are actually going to be played after the regular season is over, as in the Serie B playoffs between teams finishing 3rd through 6th. The term 'tie-breaker' should be used when a game or games is scheduled to break a tie for a title, for a cup spot, or to avoid relegation, and is (or was) played only because the teams finished with the same number of points. I realize that tie-breaking games have been virtually eliminated from Serie A and Serie B, so this applies mostly to those updating past standings. Labeling tie-breaking games as 'playoffs' makes it seem that those games were pre-destined at the beginning of the season. Juve2000 (talk) 18:07, 31 March 2008 (UTC)

I agree with you. By the way, I can confirm tie-breakers have been eliminated from all professional league (from Serie A to Serie C2). Serie B, Serie C1 and Serie C2 feature instead promotion and relegation playoffs: the former are called play-off (as in English), whereas the latter are known in Italy as play-out (don't ask me why, I just know this particular name was simply copied from other team sports such as basketball and volleyball). --Angelo (talk) 22:00, 31 March 2008 (UTC)

Seasons templates

It seems there's quite a consensus on chaning the templates in the Scottish Premier League style in the main talk page. I don't really like it, so I proposed to divide the seasons in decades, leaving the font size of the old layout. CapPixel (talk) 14:57, 7 June 2008 (UTC)

Changes to the WP:1.0 assessment scheme

As you may have heard, we at the Wikipedia 1.0 Editorial Team recently made some changes to the assessment scale, including the addition of a new level. The new description is available at WP:ASSESS.

  • The new C-Class represents articles that are beyond the basic Start-Class, but which need additional references or cleanup to meet the standards for B-Class.
  • The criteria for B-Class have been tightened up with the addition of a rubric, and are now more in line with the stricter standards already used at some projects.
  • A-Class article reviews will now need more than one person, as described here.

Each WikiProject should already have a new C-Class category at Category:C-Class_articles. If your project elects not to use the new level, you can simply delete your WikiProject's C-Class category and clarify any amendments on your project's assessment/discussion pages. The bot is already finding and listing C-Class articles.

Lega Pro

Should we create new pages for Lega Pro (actually a redirect to Serie C article), Lega Pro Prima Divisione and Lega Pro Seconda Divisione? CapPixel (talk) 08:37, 24 July 2008 (UTC)

Personally I consider Lega Pro as a mere rebranding of Serie C, so I think new articles are just unnecessary. Just move the current Serie C1 and Serie C2 articles into a different title. I don't know if Lega Pro Prima Divisione is a good name, this is the English Wikipedia and that denomination is the official Italian one; Inter's English-language section refers to the league as Lega Pro Division 1 and Lega Pro Division 2 respectively.[3] --Angelo (talk) 08:44, 24 July 2008 (UTC)
It has also a major rule change: clubs have to sign a certain number of young players. About the denomination, articles on, for example, Prima Divisione, Fußball-Bundesliga, La Liga are on their native languagues. I can't see any reason to name them in English. This major change already regarded all amateur leagues from Serie D and below, and I don't think it's enough to establish a mark between Serie C and Lega Pro, since there's no league reorganization at all (the same number of rounds, the same number of teams, the exact same promotion and relegation rules). --Angelo (talk) 12:29, 24 July 2008 (UTC)

I too don't think two separate articles should be created. Renaming Serie C1 and Serie C2 is fine with me. I think we should be consistent and keep the italian names, like we have done for Serie A and B etc. I strongly suggest that we keep one template for the Serie C1/Lega Pro Prima Divisione seasons and one template for Serie C2/Lega Pro Secondo Divisione seasons. I DO NOT like the different templates that were recently created just because of the renaming of the conferences. Lega Serie A

As i saw Lega Calcio president took over the Lega Serie A president, and seems the name of the league unchanged and only the TV rights changed and just look like only kick Serie B out to had their own governing body and won financial deal. Matthew_hk tc 04:56, 2 July 2010 (UTC)y

I've been wondering how we could handle this change for a while (basically, since the split was announced). Then I just decided to wait and see what they would do on it.wiki. As far as I can see, they've now created a new article for the Lega Serie A and are planning to have a new one also for the Lega Serie B. I think we should go in that direction, beacuse actually the old Lega Calcio has been dissolved and as you can read here, the two new leagues will have each its own new website (though the Serie B one is still not running). -- Luxic (talk) 08:52, 2 July 2010 (UTC)

Are these players notable?

Danilo Mariotti and Roberto Mariotti have just been deleted under the WP:BLPPROD rules. Are they notable players? The article's creator User:Burning Desire, who claimed to be Danilo Mariotti himself, also created A.S.D. SVS Roma. Is that a notable team? I know nothing about Italian football, so I'll leave it to others to decide.The-Pope (talk) 15:24, 8 October 2010 (UTC)

Hi, Danilo. If you have a look at WP:NSPORTS, you'll find out that you and your current team are not notable to be included here, since you don't compete in a fully professional league. As for your father, he might be notable, but you need to provide reliable sources proving that he actually played at least one game in Serie C2. Otherwise, his article shall always be deleted. Unbeaten streak at home in Serie A

Milan had 33 unbeaten streak at home in Serie A, from during 1990–91 Serie A to 1992–93 Serie A, but Inter had 46 which recently ended, from 2007–08 Serie A to 2010–11 Serie A, is that a record? Matthew_hk tc 00:57, 15 November 2010 (UTC)

i found it may be the second best (or a third one), Inter seems had a record of unbeaten streak at home in Serie A from the mid of 1963–64 Serie A to 1966–67 Serie A for over 50 matches (i counted around 57). Matthew_hk tc 01:04, 15 November 2010 (UTC)
The record for the longest unbeaten streak at home in Serie A is 89 and was set by Torino, who went undefeated in home games from 31 Januray 1943 to 6 November 1949 (source: it.wiki). Luxic (talk) 20:12, 15 November 2010 (UTC)
