@Nthep: any idea who the sockmaster feuding with Ineedtostopforgetting is? I think this is my first time seeing two sockmasters go after each other. Horse Eye's Back (talk) 19:23, 5 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

No idea I'm afraid. Nthep (talk) 19:25, 5 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Its odd, they are exceedingly persistent and paradoxically rather helpful as a result. Very much a fruit of the poisonous tree dilemma. Horse Eye's Back (talk) 19:33, 5 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Horse Eye's Back: I have a suspicion about what I think might be going on here, at least in part, but not a completely clear one. I was going to send you an e-mail about it, but you have that disabled. I'm reluctant, per WP:BEANS, to explain too much on-wiki. In general, I think it's an attempt at misdirection. Grandpallama (talk) 19:55, 5 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I’l take your word for it, I dont do off-wiki communication and the socker clearly keeps tabs on this page. I don’t have the technical ability or authority to do anything about it anyway. Horse Eye's Back (talk) 21:57, 5 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Stale accounts?[edit]

Do checkusers not check stale accounts? With Ineedtostopforgettings frequent account hopping the vast majority of their socks are currently stale. How can we deal with this? Horse Eye's Back (talk) 17:16, 8 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Horse Eye's Back, the short answer is, "No, they don't". This is enforced by the mediawiki software; log entries are only kept for a fixed amount of time, then age out of the system. If there's no activity in that time window, the account is considered stale, because there's no data available to look at. -- RoySmith (talk) 18:09, 8 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
That completely makes sense, what in general is the window? I don't want to waste someones time again. Horse Eye's Back (talk) 18:29, 8 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Horse Eye's Back, The number is not strictly a secret, but the exact value isn't widely advertised, to cut down on abuse. -- RoySmith (talk) 19:07, 8 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, I’l keep that in mind. Horse Eye's Back (talk) 23:16, 8 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Archiving[edit]

@Blablubbs: when you make an action like [1] how does it get archived? I’m not seeing it in there. Horse Eye's Back (talk) 21:55, 10 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Horse Eye's Back, I deliberately did not archive (to archive, we close and then cut and paste move into the archive). The filings are in the same vein as the one I linked to (which had been submitted by INTSF); there is no actionable evidence here, and I feel that it's unjust towards users to repeatedly come up in an SPI when there is nothing to tie them to it. Being subjected to investigations that leave a permanent record can be stressful, which is why we fairly regularly G6 filings that have insufficient merit. I decided to do the equivalent to a G6 deletion – a simple revert – here. --Blablubbs (talk) 22:15, 10 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you! That totally makes sense. Horse Eye's Back (talk) 22:25, 10 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Questions[edit]

Hello, I am the user that initially created this page in 2019. (It also resulted in the Wikipedia page for the list of developed countries in the CIA world factbook to be deleted, which I was correcting and improving). My questions are , How has this gone on for so long with one person? Is it one person? My understanding is the person is in Singapore, from years ago. There have been thousands of investigations on this page alone. Wouldn't it actually save work hours by now to actually track down the physical building the person is using? Has there not been IP bans by now? Is he now using a library or university computer center or what? Led8000 (talk) 23:10, 3 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

There's no point to pin down the physical address of the person. It cost an equal amount of time and resources or even more to do so. Singapore is a highly connected nation, with IP addresses changing all the time. And one can use mobile broadband here as well. We have extremely generous data packages here. – robertsky (talk) 14:39, 4 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
