Assassination of British Officers Rand and Ayerst

[edit]

If this is suppose to be a landmark event during the Indian independence movement, shouldn't there be an actual article about the incident, or at least biography articles on Rand and Ayerst, instead of linking to a 1979 film about the incident (which essentially only has references pertaining to the film, not the incident itself)? It would be like linking to the recent film Valkyrie instead of the 20 July plot article. Such films are essentially historical reenactments based on historical events, which most often are not totally 100 percent historically accurate and representative of the events they are respectively depicting. Operation Barbarossa

[edit]
Moved from WP:ERRORS[1]

Following event looks very biased though it is just example of Systemic bias of Wikipedia: 1941 – World War II: As over 4.5 million Axis troops began their invasion of the Soviet Union, the Lithuanian Activist Front took the opportunity to start an uprising to liberate Lithuania from Soviet occupation and establish a new government.

Events of completely different historical significance combined together in this sentence which contradicts The criteria for inclusion in the selected anniversaries queue (2. The event needs to be of moderate to great historical significance (relative to the other historical events that occurred on the same day of the year).

Please change it to something like this: Over 4.5 million Axis troops began their invasion of the Soviet Union and the Soviet Union de-facto joined Allies despite its controversial role in the begining of the World War II. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 198.240.128.75 (talk) 19:03, 22 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Unfortunately, per rule # 7 of the criteria, the Operation Barbarossa article does not qualify to be bolded because its "Reasons for initial Soviet defeats" and "Weather" sections are both tagged with {{refimprove}}. Therefore, the option is to NOT mention any 1941 event at all, suggest an alternative article to feature and bold, or stick with this compromise. Which of the three would you like to use? Zzyzx11 (talk) 20:09, 22 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I should also mention that this compromise of bolding June Uprising in Lithuania was done to help placate two groups of established Wikipedia users who regular make general complants about the events listed on Selected anniversaries/On this day: those who want rule # 7 to always be strictly followed, and those who insist that core topics like the 22 June 1941 event should never, ever be removed from the page. So far, you are the only one to complain that we should remove all references to the June Uprising in Lithuania here, and only mention Operation Barbarossa (which is not a surprise since we get relatively very few complaints, like yours, that are based more on trying to judge, compare and contrast the amount of importance or significance between two events). Unfortunately, the complaints of one person does not immediately change consensus. Therefore, either please suggest an alternate article to feature and bold, or please help cleanup the Operation Barbarossa article. Otherwise, the June Uprising in Lithuania article may be bolded again next year (especially if there is a group of users who come out and argue that the June Uprising was as important or significant as Operation Barbarossa -- or those users who want rule # 7 to always be strictly followed end up making that page a featured article).
