I completely concur with Jayron32's view, except for the suggest to attempt to integrate the JKR information. I've certainly given Omallystwin the benefit of the doubt: I first moved his the JKR stuff to an "In popular culture" section, then let him slide (by not reporting a 3RR), then offered my reluctant view that there 'may' be a possibility that it's notable enough, but then finally decided that there was sufficient consensus to keep the JKR information off the page.

BigFatDave's edit, which he admitted lacked notability, attempted to integrate the information into the "In popular culture" section, but that was reverted as well (and appropriately so, IMHO).

He's obviously frustrated (see his "stuff the consensus, ill keep reposting it" comment), because he sees JKR and FredTheMonkey as notable, but the consensus is against it.

I'm continuing to assume good faith, and am looking for a reasonable way to resolve this. Travisl 16:25, 1 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I was never a fan of "in popular culture" sections in the first place. I really don't think they're encyclopedic, and they raise the question "what is popular?" The payoff isn't worth it. A lot of the time (as in this case), they're used for fans of a less popular entity to leech onto the article of a more popular entity. – flamurai (t) 17:11, 1 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

In assuming good faith, I also assumed that Omallystwin's first post-RFC edit was made because, perhaps, he wasn't aware of the RFC.
