Optional question from Keepscases[edit]

18. Kindly demonstrate your grammar skills by explaining at least one way Quadell's nomination could be improved.

My favorite ideas for answers:
  1. A: "Always polite and helpful" could be "Always polite and hirsute".
  2. A: In "Jarry1250 is a great editor", the word "great" could link to List of people known as The Great.
  3. A: It could feature an animated gif of a dancing cat.
  4. A: It could be edited by a Scientologist who was paid to delink dates.
  5. A: It could use more cowbell.
  6. A: "...at least one way in which Quadell's nomination could be improved."
Yours et cetera, – Quadell (talk) 22:49, 18 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I tried my best, but your nom was just too well written Quadell. How dare your writing ability scupper my chance of the perfect answer! Yours angrily, - Jarry1250 (t, c, rfa) 10:20, 19 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Oh come now, you're in danger of losing your pedant merit badge if you can't do better than that!
"He's been a Wikipedian since 2006, but really highly active since November (7 months)." This uses "He has been" as the lead-in to a noun (Wikipedian) in the first clause, but as a lead-in to an adjective (active) in the second, and they do not match. Besides, a comma is only needed if the subject is repeated.
"Always polite and helpful, he answers questions at AN and ANI occasionally,..." "Occasionally" is a dangling modifier; it's unclear whether all his answering is occasional, or only the ANI questions.
"He's never been blocked, never been complained about on AN or ANI, or anything similar." Poor construction. Is it similar to having been blocked and complained about, or similar to ANI? The passive case makes it difficult to make the sentence consistent. Try "Not a soul has felt obligated to block him, complain about him on AN or ANI, or bring disrepute on his head in a similar manner" instead. – Quadell (talk) 14:23, 19 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I think we all know that knowing ones [sic] stuff is no precondition for the "pedant merit badge". In the words of Edmund Blackadder, "You sound a bit overqualified". - Jarry1250 (t, c, rfa) 15:08, 19 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Question 20[edit]

Bah! It's a Hall-effect keyboard, this DIY jobby, or nothing! – Quadell (talk) 20:54, 19 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Don't you just wish you were the sort the sort of person who could sit down one day and think "You know what, today I'm going to make myself a custom keyboard...."? I know I do. - Jarry1250 (t, c, rfa) 21:01, 19 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I think any keyboard is a wonderful thing ... it's that dawgone "Save page" button that always gets me in trouble. ;) — Ched :  ?  19:40, 20 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I would LOVE to have that steampunk DIY overhaul of an IBM Model M. But not enough to do it myself. - ALLSTRecho wuz here @ 21:22, 20 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
