update[edit]

  • need some sleep here ... and I have a few jobs shortly, but I'll return ASAP (8-10 hrs?). Best to all — Ched :  ?  07:58, 12 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Have some real life work to attend to - will check back this evening to see if there are any more questions I need to address. Thank you all for your time. — Ched :  ?  17:34, 12 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • re: Oppose #5 (at the time of this post) NVO. First, thank you for taking the time to evaluate my efforts here. The item you mention on my home page: "Editing at Wikipedia is a privilege ... not a right." I likely won't be removing that. (unless there is consensus that it is in some way offensive to a group of people). I'm sorry, it's my belief, and I stand by it. I explained partially in Question 12. my particular view, but you are most welcome on my talk page if you'd like to discuss it further. I'm not sure why anyone would consider it "menacing", but I'm willing to listen. I'm always open to other peoples thoughts and opinions on almost all matters related to WP. Sincerely. — Ched :  ?  11:08, 13 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • I have some running to do today, but will check back later this afternoon to see if there are any items I should respond to, or any questions I should answer. Have a great day all. — Ched :  ?  11:08, 13 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • sigh ... I suppose that it is incumbent upon me to respond the oppose number 1. The idea that "That a broken policy is in place should be an encouragement to change it, not an excuse to enforce it" presupposes the concept that WP:CIV is "broken". I don't believe that this is the case. The entire concept that we are an open community suggests that we should be welcoming to all. I don't view WP:CIV as a broken policy in the least. However; I make a great distinction between the article talk pages and user pages, and as such, I have no issues with editors who engage in blunt and and frank conversations. I don't agree that an editor should be shown preferential treatment simply because they have the ability to provide quality contributions (GA or FA); however, I do ascribe to the idea that their viewpoints should be given due consideration. We are a global community, and I expect that due consideration be given to all that chose to join our family. — Ched :  ?  01:55, 14 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
    • I'd also add that I do make the distinction between uncivil and incivil. I don't have a problem with bluntness, but there is no need to attack when you don't agree with someone. — Ched :  ?  02:27, 16 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • If there is anything I should know or respond to, feel free to drop me a poke on my talk page. — Ched :  ?  04:18, 15 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • I guess that wraps up another couple questions. I'll check back in tomorrow late-afternoon to see if there is anything else I need to respond to. — Ched :  ?  02:43, 16 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • I will be working during away from home for the bulk of the early part of today, but will check back later this afternoon, or early evening to see if there are any items I need to respond to. — Ched :  ?  14:04, 17 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Very heavy storms moving into my area, so I could lose power/Internet at most any time. Will try to check when I can. — Ched :  ?  22:22, 17 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Scrutiny[edit]

The voting so far is very lopsided in favor of Ched. Are people looking carefully through each and every edit he's ever made? Surely there's something there he needs to explain. I haven't seen any proof that Ched isn't hell bent on destroying Wikipedia from the inside, and I think we owe it to ourselves to cast some aspersions and make things exciting for young Chedsky so we're sure he's cut out to be an Administrator. What do we really know about Ched, after all? Aren't there some probing and borderline inappropriate questions we can ask to put him on the spot? Come on people, there are only four full days left. Don't let Ched just slide through unscathed. Adminship carries a lot of responsibility and Ched needs to be tested in every possible way we can think of before getting the bit. There's still time, but we can't just sit back and hope for drama some controversial issue to arise, we have to find something so we can make it happen. ChildofMidnight (talk) 06:08, 14 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

May I guess this is meant in jest? If so, I like it :D If not, may I suggest AGF against those who voted support? Huntster (t@c) 10:26, 14 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Young Chedsy? He's hardly young :p Steve Crossin Talk/Help us mediate! 11:13, 14 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Shh, don't tell Ched that, I don't think he's aware. Remember, you're only as old as you feel. And that makes me 91. Huntster (t@c) 11:35, 14 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
↑ what he said ;P — Ched :  ?  14:27, 14 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

←re the "drama some controversial issue[s]": It's inevitable that these things will happen in an open global community, and as much as I enjoy a debate IRL, I think for the purposes of building an encyclopedia it's best to resolve those differences as quickly as possible, and return to building WP:NPOV articles. (whoops .. there goes that !vote ;)) As far as the "unscathed" part, I'm hardly in this or this league yet. At this point, I'm more interested in improving my writing skills, and both RB and Huntster are helping me with that. I figure that I have a long way to go in that respect, but if I don't reach for the stars, I won't get off the ground. — Ched :  ?  15:49, 14 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  1. Optional Question from ChildofMidnight: What do they call English muffins in England? ChildofMidnight (talk) 04:41, 16 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
A. I'm not sure. To be honest though, I'm still wondering why we drive on a parkway, and park in a driveway ... ??? ;-O — Ched :  ?  14:52, 16 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Any chance they're just called a "muffin"? :) Steve Crossin Talk/Help us mediate! 21:48, 16 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I come from that logical place you speak of. We do indeed eat muffins, confuse the French by eating French toast, have parkways (to take our trains from), driveways and strangeways. ϢereSpielChequers 22:25, 16 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
But I don't think English muffins are muffins at all, are they? And Thomas isn't around to straighten the issue out. It seems more like a crumpet. But I see now they are in fact considered muffins in the UK. Quite a mess I'd say. ChildofMidnight (talk) 22:46, 16 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
In the past, we in the UK did indeed have "muffins" that are broadly similar to an American "English muffin". However, in recent years they have fallen mostly out of use in the UK, so the most common "muffins" you see are of the American "actually a large cupcake" type. The only place I commonly see old-style "muffins" over here is, ironically, in the form of an Egg McMuffin. So by the sound of it, the term "English muffin" is not as completely irrational as, say, "French toast", but they're still a lot more common in the USA than they are in their supposed native land. ~ mazca t|c 23:02, 16 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Alas yes, even when it comes to muffins we are but puppets. ϢereSpielChequers 23:09, 16 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Speaking of food[edit]

Are any of y'all familiar with Barratt's candies or Monkhill Confectionery in Pontefract? One of their candies was up for AfD so I made a new article on the parent (I think it's owned by some third party now after being part of the Cadbury empire for a bit). But I've never heard of any of their candies (Refreshers, Flumps, Fruit Salad, Black Jacks and Butterkist Popcorn?) so details or photos would be great. Congrats to young Chedsky on holding up under fire in his RfA. It wasn't as exciting as the the first couple Godfather (movie)s, but it had its moments. ChildofMidnight (talk) 21:20, 17 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Godfather III is highly insulted and wanted me to tell you: I'm smart! Not like everybody says... like dumb... I'm smart and I want respect!--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 21:55, 17 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I guess the phrase that "Pedro made me an offer I couldn't refuse" would be considered rather lame humor. But on the "food" topic, I'm only familiar with the Cadbury reference due to Easter Candy. I am starting to think however, that eating at CoMs house for holiday meals must be quite a treat! — Ched :  ?  22:27, 17 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Some candy company called Tangerine Confectionery appears to have bought out the Monkhill biz. So my work is focused on that article now. Why you don't have more normal candies like Milk Duds, Twizzlers, Tootsie rolls, Jujyfruits, Warheads, jolly ranchers, M&Ms, big league chew and Sour Patch Kids, I have no idea. And as for you Fredo. You're nothing to me now. You're not a brother. You're not a friend. I don't want to know you or what you do. I don't want to see you at the hotels, I don't want you near my house. When you see our mother, I want to know a day in advance, so I won't be there. You understand? ChildofMidnight (talk) 23:30, 17 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Don't forget the Necco Wafers .. mmmm ... gotta love those chocolate ones! — Ched :  ?  23:45, 17 June 2009 (UTC) (and remind me to avoid any boat rides)[reply]
No one eats Necco Wafers here Chedsky. Must be something we export across the pond. :) Congrats on your RfA. Hopefully the tomato juice and pie will come out in the wash... ChildofMidnight (talk) 01:43, 19 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
