Timeline

Handout: Welcome to Wikipedia (available in print or online from the Wikimedia Foundation)

Start the online student orientation. During this training, you will create an account, make edits in a sandbox, and learn the basic rules of Wikipedia.
When you make your account, include your email address, even though it says optional (does not have to be Bearcat email).

Optional: You may want to play around a bit to familiarize yourself with the system. Try adding bio boxes to philosophers as part of the Philosophy – Philosophers WikiProject: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:WikiProject_Philosophy/Philosophers. Or you can search for women philosophers on Wikipedia as you’re deciding on someone and, if they’re not tagged as women philosophers, add the category

Category:Women and philosophy Category:Wikipedia Education Program . You can start by looking at the list of feminist philosophers (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Feminist_philosophers), not all of whom are women!, and categorize the appropriate ones as women philosophers.

Post your suggested philosopher to Blackboard for my approval. Begin researching.
Create a user page, and sign up on the list of students on the course page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Education_Program:University_of_Cincinnati/Philosophy_and_Women_%28Summer_2013%29
Optional: To practice editing and communicating on Wikipedia, introduce yourself to any Wikipedians helping your class (such as a Wikipedia Ambassador), and leave a message for a classmate on their user talk page.

Add your philosopher to the class’s course page.
Compile a bibliography of relevant research and post it to the talk page of the article you are working on.
Write a 2-3 paragraph summary version of your article—with citations—in your Wikipedia sandbox

The report must be 500-750 words and include sources (not included in the word count). The sources should include at least two articles of the author’s work (or the equivalent in chapters or book reviews) and the other sources you used to write the Wikipedia article. If your Wikipedia article is 500-750 words, you may just submit it as your report (through Blackboard). You can include in your report information you found about your philosopher that was not suitable/relevant/important enough for Wikipedia. (You will learn more about your philosopher than what should be included in an encyclopedia article. Your report will reflect that.)

Complete article. Make sure you tag it Category:Women philosophers (enclose in double square brackets).
Move sandbox articles into main space.
Submit report through Blackboard.
Optional: Compose a one-sentence “hook,” nominate it for “Did you know,” and monitor the nomination for any issues identified by other editors.
Optional: Comment on or edit other students' articles. Leave suggestions for improving articles on the article talk pages.

All articles have been submitted to Wikipedia. All reports have been submitted to Blackboard.
