Offline sources?
[edit]The creation of Tirta Gangga in this diff was initially unsourced. The para about the water palace is later cited by Dr. B to an offline source diff. The whole text introduced remains, largely unchanged, in the history section of the article currently. I don't have access to the offline book, and google books handily has the referenced page missing from the preview.
The exact text originally introduced is present elsewhere on the internet, although it can't be ascertained whether this was lifted from wikipedia or the book.
How do we validate this? Cheers, Gricehead (talk) 10:38, 29 January 2020 (UTC)
- I checked the interwiki links just in case it was translated from another wiki without attribution, but they were all created well after this article, so we can disregard that possibility. ♠PMC♠ (talk) 17:57, 29 January 2020 (UTC)
- I can get it on inter-library loan, but it's a more recent edition. Have done so. Please leave the entry, it shouldn't take long to arrive, as there's a copy in St Albert— Diannaa (talk) 00:39, 30 January 2020 (UTC)
" the late King of Karangsem but was destroyed almost entirely by the eruption of nearby Mount Agung in 1963." my book says "including the 1963 eruption of Gunung Agung and an earthquake in 1979". Can't see any vio on this one from my book, the extract in the book on p.220 mostly rambles about local hotels and restaurants and how "impressive" it is. It's definitely not the sort of prose I would have entirely written myself though, I'd delete the original text to be on the safe side.♦ Dr. Blofeld 13:35, 3 February 2020 (UTC)
Update: The material was from Wikitravel, not the book. I added the required attribution.— Diannaa (talk) 00:46, 20 February 2020 (UTC)
- oh no! At least it’s fixed now. Money emoji💵Talk💸Help out at CCI! 00:48, 20 February 2020 (UTC)
Initial passes complete on pages 10 and 25
[edit]Only three remain in Wikipedia:Contributor copyright investigations/Dr. Blofeld 10 whereas Wikipedia:Contributor copyright investigations/Dr. Blofeld 25 has a few dozen still to check (i.e. are not clearly ok, including some that are possibly "close paraphrasing" copyvios). Pichpich (talk) 21:25, 4 February 2020 (UTC)
- I'll handle the remaining three in Blofield 10 and finish it off :) Nosebagbear (talk) 09:14, 12 February 2020 (UTC)
- #10 has been fully cleared, and closed Nosebagbear (talk) 10:25, 12 February 2020 (UTC)
Second opinion for Paro, Bhutan
[edit]Diannaa or Money emoji, could I get a second opinion on the degree of copying in the Architecture section of Paro, Bhutan? Earwig shows that various turns of phrase are clearly taken from the cited source, but there's enough trimmed that Earwig shows a low percentage. I've already had to scrub the history of content copied from another cited source. The extent to which the Airport section resembles the source is also concerning to me. ♠PMC♠ (talk) 21:38, 7 March 2020 (UTC)
- Correction to ping for Diannaa; I can never remember how many N's :P ♠PMC♠ (talk) 21:39, 7 March 2020 (UTC)
- I don't typically worry about the percentage, but will clean any unique phrases or sentences, either by re-wording or removing. I've gone ahead and done the re-wording and revision deletion and marked it as done on Blofeld 06.— Diannaa (talk) 22:17, 7 March 2020 (UTC)
- That's what I wasn't sure about - whether there was enough similarity to be worth pulling out. Thanks for the quick response :) ♠PMC♠ (talk) 22:32, 7 March 2020 (UTC)
All basic prose cleared out
[edit]I just finished clearing the last of the basic prose articles. Now, checking websites/fixing translations is going to come next. For this stage of the cleanup, leave books and journals alone unless you can access them. Moneytrees🌴Talk🌲Help out at CCI! 01:35, 5 April 2020 (UTC)
