This is really getting out of hand. Is there any hope for this Afd to close as anything other than a "no consensus"? Is there any hope for people not to get pissed off at each other? Can we tone down the nationalistic BS and talk about the article? Most of the world doesn't care about whatever silly Canada/US rivalries may exist.

There's a lot of words being put on the page, but I don't see that a lot of communication is happening. For those that are just saying "this is important" or "this is notable", you have to remember that WP is meant to be an encyclopedia. Articles should use reliable sources. Blogs and message boards are specifically not to be used as primary sources, and for very good reason.

Wikipedia, by design, is not going to have good coverage of emerging social/political trends. If the impact of blogging on Canadian politics hasn't been covered in enough reliable sources, we can't have an article about it, no matter how important it is. If such sources can be found and used, great. If not, just wait a few years. If this is actually that important, good sources will certainly cover it in time.

I wish everyone would please remember, we're not talking about shutting down anyone's websites or suppressing anyone's freedom of speech. We're simply talking about what belongs in the encyclopedia. Saying "blogs are crap" or "stop being anti-Canadian" adds nothing to the discussion, and causes unhelpful strife. Friday 15:27, 16 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Closure Notes[edit]

  • Article

I counted 4 delete votes and 1 keep as illegimate due to possible sock/meatpuppet activity, more than likely due to the GNAA presence here.

Merge contingent was split, and ultimately not large enough to constitute a consensus even if united. As a result, this afd won't determine a decision on any transfers of the information in the article to any other page. Karmafist 16:48, 20 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
