Wikipedia:WikiProject community rehabilitation/Idea/Organized events

I think the WP:NODRAMA project was quite successful in that it managed to unite a portion of the enwiki community with a productive end result. It might be a good idea to have more such occasions, including contests, organized WikiProject events, etc. Thoughts? –Juliancolton | Talk 18:24, 5 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Everyone join the WikiCup. You'll do nothing but edit content for 10 months! :D iMatthew talk at 15:00, 7 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
It's a bit too big for the average wikipedian, no? How about some "drives" for clearing backlogs (I mean article related ones like copyediting, not the administrative stuff) etc, maybe in collaboration with some of the bigger wikiprojects to start with? ≈ Chamal talk ¤ 15:04, 7 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • I agree wholeheartedly that the NODRAMA was a GREAT project. I think it should be a quarterly event! — Ched :  ?  01:42, 8 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • How about having the occasional week for a specific background task? Wikipedia:WikiProject Red Link Recovery/Pluralisation is a big daunting but useful project. I think if we declared a week as redlink week we could make a real dent in it. We could then hold similar events perhaps once a month for other drives - my favourites would be "finding photos from commons for articles without photos", de orphanning and template removal. Aside from getting a lot of useful stuff, done it would also give participants the opportunity of working in a bunch of areas they hadn't previously considered.
