Wikipedia:WikiProject U.S. Roads/Alabama/1957 renumbering

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This apparently happened on January 1, 1957. Since the pre-renumbering source I have is from 1955, some of these changes may have happened before then.

  • SR-1: replaced SR-37 and became SR-38 and SR-21 between Opelika and Anniston

Originally went south on what is now US 431, SR-51, and unnumbered roads to Eufaula; rerouted to the west over parts of SR-11 and SR-21 in 1930; old route renumbered as SR-37 north of SR-26

  • SR-2: swapped with SR-20 west of Florence-Tuscumbia
  • SR-3: replaced SR-12 and became SR-59 south of Stapleton
  • SR-4: moved to new route and became SR-118 between Hamilton and Jasper (this change may have happened before the renumbering)
  • SR-5: became SR-13 south of Thomasville; swapped with SR-195 between Jasper and Haleyville; became SR-13 north of Phil Campbell
  • SR-6: rerouted over SR-208 in Montgomery; the old route became part of SR-143 (this change may have happened before the renumbering; if so, the old route became part of SR-45 first)
  • SR-9: became SR-15 and replaced SR-98 and SR-15 south of Brantley
  • SR-11: became SR-21
    • Eliminated because of US-11
  • SR-12: replaced SR-124 to Evergreen and SR-44 west of there and became SR-15, SR-3, and SR-16 west of Andalusia; replaced SR-15 and SR-52 and became SR-52 between Opp and Dothan
  • SR-13: replaced SR-5 south of Thomasville; replaced SR-40 and became SR-69 between Linden and Tuscaloosa; moved to new route and became SR-171 (except one section that was already part of SR-18) between Bankston and Phil Campbell; replaced SR-5 north of Phil Campbell (the Bankston to Phil Campbell change may have happened before the renumbering)
    • Done in part to match US-43
  • SR-14: replaced SR-40 west of Eutaw; replaced SR-41 between Eutaw and Marion; replaced SR-43 between Marion and Selma

  • SR-28: replaced SR-132 west of Linden; new route between Moscow and Linden
  • SR-29: unless another one was created, the number was eliminated by 1952 by an extension of SR-17; went from York to Deer Park; originally went east to Wagarville and swapped with SR-56 by 1946
