Liam Michael Kernaghan is a New Zealand politician and Member of Parliament in the House of Representatives for the National Party.

Biography[edit]

Kernaghan was born and raised in Dunedin, where he attended John McGlashan College and the University of Otago.[1] While at John McGlashan, he became the first Highland bagpiper in the school's history to reach A-grade status.[2] Kernaghan's piping ability helped him to win an Alexander Leith Memorial Scholarship to attend the University of Otago, where he studied law, politics and music.[3] In 2015 he was co-convenor of the Southern Young Nationals.[4] In 2016, he was a political advisor to Amy Adams, and also spent time working for Bill English. At the time of the announcement of his selection to stand for Parliament, he was a senior advisor to then National leader Simon Bridges.[5]

Kernaghan was selected as the National Party candidate for the Taieri electorate in March 2020.[6]

In the 2020 general election, he was elected to the Taieri seat with a majority of XXX.
