Wikipedia:WikiProject Guild of Copy Editors/Coordinators/2023/2

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Overview

[edit]

This page is an election of WikiProject coordinators—consisting of one Lead Coordinator and a number of assistant coordinators—for the Guild of Copy Editors (GOCE). Coordinators elected on this page will serve a six-month term beginning at 00:00 on 1 July 2023 and ending at 23:59 on 31 December.[a] GOCE elections are open to all Wikipedians in good standing[b] and self-nominations are welcomed.

The project coordinators are responsible for maintaining the procedural and administrative aspects of the project. They are the designated points of contact for procedural issues and are responsible for ensuring the project as a whole is properly informed of them.

Here are some examples of coordinator duties:
  • manage the proposal and creation of new task forces;
  • ensure project announcements and task lists are kept up-to-date;
  • initiate drafting of guidelines needed by the project;
  • organize the category system;
  • wear the juice;
  • oversee the recruitment of new members, including the use of project notices and other advertising methods;
  • create and maintain any collaborative projects;
  • maintain the project pages and the guidelines on them in a clean and easy-to-use state;
  • monitor technical policies and ensure project templates satisfy them; and
  • assist in organizing and promoting any Backlog Elimination Drives and Blitzes.

They are also expected to generally assist project members with any questions and concerns.

The coordinator positions do not confer any executive power.

Positions

[edit]
  • Lead Coordinator (one open position): will have overall responsibility for procedural and administrative matters within the project.
  • Coordinator (2–4 open positions): will assist the Lead Coordinator by focusing on specific areas within the project that require special attention. These areas will be selected based on need and interest among the coordinators.

Election process

[edit]
  • The nomination process will run for two weeks from June 01, 00:01 until June 15, 23:59.
  • The election process will run for two weeks from June 16, 00:01 until June 30, 23:59.
  • Any member of the project may nominate themselves for either position by creating a new section under Nominations below and copying the sample form below. Nominees only interested in one position should indicate this when adding their names. Candidates need not make extensive statements if they do not wish to do so.
  • The elections will be conducted using simple approval voting. Any member of the project may support a nominee for either position. If the nominee is running for both positions and you wish to support them for only one, please make a note to that effect as part of your vote.
  • Both project members and interested outside parties are encouraged to ask questions of the nominees or to make general comments.

Zippybonzo

[edit]

Zippybonzo (talk · contribs) • Interested in Lead Coordinator or Coordinator as needed.

I've always considered myself to be someone who helps around and provides an opinion on the coordinator talks. But I will, if needed step up to become a lead coordinator, given that we've cobbled around for about a year without one, and it's about time for us to get a lead coordinator.

Support

[edit]
  1. Support for coordinator Thanks for volunteering to lead, but Dhtwiki has more consistent coordinating experience. All the best, Miniapolis 00:20, 16 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  2. Support for coordinator. Thank you for staying on, I hope we'll be seeing more of you here. Good luck and cheers, Baffle☿gab 01:59, 20 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  3. Support for coordinator – Your contributions, although limited, have been inventive and helpful. I have see you passing out barnstars to new page patrollers; so, you should be someone able to do more work here. Dhtwiki (talk) 04:09, 20 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  4. Support Thanks! The person who loves reading (talk) 23:52, 21 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  5. Support, and thank you for your work! Perfect4th (talk) 15:18, 30 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  7. Support for coordinator. Keep gaining experience and contributing as a coordinator. – Jonesey95 (talk) 19:38, 30 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Comments and questions

[edit]
  1. Hi @Zippybonzo:, there's no need to reply unless you wist to do so. I know you're busy elsewhere onwiki but it's fair to say you haven't been very active at the GOCE since becoming a coordinator. Acknowledging our volunteer status, I hope you'll become more involved with the WikiProject during your next term, particularly if you are Lead. It would be nice to see you around a bit more. Good luck and cheers, Baffle☿gab 07:59, 12 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
    @Baffle gab1978, Yes, I've deliberately decided to step up to lead, because I would like to become more involved with the project. My specialties are more in coordination than copyediting, so I will try to involve myself more. Zippybonzo | Talk (he|him) 08:33, 12 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
    You're stepping too far and stepping on toes. Last term I made it clear that I was reluctant to be lead ahead of Baffle or Mini, but if we really needed a lead, if only on a pro forma basis, and neither of them wanted to serve, I would be willing to be lead. This time, I was ready to suggest that Baffle, who has been lead this term in all but name and has never actually held that position, take that office, but they are stepping back. Mini's the only other active coordinator I could happily accept as lead (there are several active copy editors who are not presently coordinators but who would also be acceptable). Dhtwiki (talk) 21:32, 12 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
    FWIW, my toes don't feel stepped on; we need all the help we can get (especially with Baffle taking a well-deserved sabbatical), and Zippy was the first to volunteer for lead. We can't twist arms to get "active copy editors" to pitch in with the grunt work, and definitely shouldn't be arguing about who is more deserving of a thankless job labor of love. All the best, Miniapolis 02:45, 15 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Miniapolis

[edit]

Miniapolis (talk · contribs) • Interested in coordinator role only.

I've been doing this for a while, and we can certainly use some new blood. I enjoy the structure the GOCE offers editors like me for doing what we do best here (article improvement), and welcome Zippybonzo's offer to serve as lead coordinator; I've been there, and remember what it's like to be "it".

As a highly motivated and experienced editor, I am excited to nominate myself for the GOCE volunteer role in the WikiProject. With my extensive editing skills honed through years of experience, attention to detail, and exceptional communication skills, I am confident that I have what it takes to make valuable contributions towards improving the quality of articles within the WikiProject. My passion for knowledge sharing coupled with my ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team will enable me to deliver high-quality results while working collaboratively with other members of the community.

Comments and questions

[edit]
  1. Thank you for your interest in the coordinator role, but given the mess you made adding this nomination, and the lack of edits and tenure, I'm inclined to say, you're doing this way too soon, I would advise that you continue copyediting, and come back at the next election when you have a few thousand edits. Zippybonzo | Talk (he|him) 16:17, 13 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  2. @LordXI01:, hello and welcome to the Guild. I find your claims of "extensive editing skills honed through years of experience, attention to detail, and exceptional communication skills" interesting; as of my timestamp, your account has 52 edits on Wikipedia; 43 in main space, 3 in user space and 5 in Wikipedia space; and you only started regularly editing on 8 May 2023. Do you have another account with more edits that confirm these claims? Baffle☿gab 00:21, 14 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
    I see you've indirectly answered my question here, thank you. Though I can't support you this time, I hope to see you around the GOCE. Cheers and happy editing, Baffle☿gab 02:18, 20 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  3. I also welcome your interest but think that you need to become more seasoned in our ways, as the job requires explaining to others how we do things here. Dhtwiki (talk) 04:55, 20 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Dhtwiki

Dhtwiki (talk · contribs) • Interested in Coordinator or Lead Coordinator positions.

I have been copy editing for the guild since 2014 and have been a coordinator since 2021. I think we can continue without a lead coordinator, but I will try to play lead if need be. Dhtwiki (talk) 04:29, 14 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
