Yuzuru Hanyu at the 2014 Winter Games
Yuzuru Hanyu at the 2014 Winter Games

During his three Olympic seasons, Yuzuru Hanyu, a Japanese figure skater, won two gold medals in the men's singles event, one each in 2014 and 2018. He also placed fourth in 2022. In 2014, he became the first Asian men's singles skater to win an Olympic gold medal. Aged nineteen at the time, he became the youngest male skater to win the Olympic title since American Dick Button in 1948. In 2018, Hanyu became the first male singles skater in 66 years to win gold medals in consecutive Winter Olympics since Button, who also won in 1952. For his achievements, Hanyu received the People's Honour Award from the Prime Minister of Japan as well as two Medals of Honor with Purple Ribbon. He was also selected as a recipient of the Kikuchi Kan Prize for his accomplishments in figure skating, including his back-to-back Olympic titles. Two monuments in memory of his Olympic wins were erected at the International Center Station in his hometown of Sendai. He was also listed in ESPN's World Fame 100 and The Dominant 20 along with Forbes' 30 Under 30 Asia for his success in 2018. (Full article...)

It will also confuse the bot if the first link in the blurb is not to the article in question. So the blurb needs to be tweaked in that regard.--Wehwalt (talk) 01:05, 15 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Aoba47 and Wehwalt: I tried to adjust the blurb in a way that the main article link is placed first in the text. It would be even better to have a link to figure skating as a sport as well, but I couldn't think of a better solution yet. If there are any smart ideas, I'm open for suggestions. I've played with it some. I have no doubt there will be further modifications as the time approaches.--Wehwalt (talk) 19:26, 15 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Is there a feeling you'd prefer to run this one the day the prize is awarded?--Wehwalt (talk) 09:17, 21 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Wehwalt: I indeed considered a change of date, but retrospectively I think, it's best to stay with Hanyu's birthday. Being featured on the mainpage of the world's largest encyclopedia is such an exclusive birthday present after all.
Note: Hanyu will skate the second stop of his new ice show Prologue on December 2, 3 and 5. The reason for the day break on Sunday is probably the award ceremony, but there is no official confirmation yet. Anyways, we can expect increased traffic on his page series that week, that's for sure. Henni147 (talk) 12:12, 21 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
