Wikipedia:Suspected copyright violations/2015-05-16

  • Sanity check me here please! This appears like the author began to add content to Kuttoor, before realizing that the Kuttoor he was writing about was another Kuttoor in a different district. He then reverted his edits and created the new article about the other Kuttoor, which CSB matched against a mirror of the first go-round of edits. Thus making this a FP/CWW match, not requiring attribution since the same author made both edits. Clear as mud? CrowCaw 22:21, 1 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, I thought I was following and now I’m not so sure. The CSB original report referred to Cyclopaedia.de. My guess is that that site actually copied from the 2011 Wikipedia entry. You said the CSB identified the earlier Wikipedia entry but I don’t see that, I’m wondering if you were just connecting the same dots I connected.--S Philbrick(Talk) 13:54, 9 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • @Sphilbrick: the issue is that the article in question was CWW from one of the other "Shooting at the <year> Pan American Games - <event>". The CSB flagged on a mirror of one specific article, but just about all of the articles from the 2011 and 2015 Pan Am games have the same intro text, with only the date and venue changed. So to Properly attribute, I would just want to know which one that was. I could just say it is the one that the bot flagged, but that may not be correct, thus mis-attributed. The author is a rather prolific creator, and there's no question that this text is freely licensed with the exception of the attribution, so I'm concerned about appearing too heavy handed (especially since I lack anything to back it up, rights-wise). (edit conflict) I see that User:Sphilbrick left him a note, too, user:Crow. Meanwhile, I'm afraid his problems go beyond infringing on copyright of his fellow Wikipedia editors. Unless we can verify free license, Jacqueline Simoneau is a problem against [1]. :/ --Moonriddengirl (talk) 22:25, 9 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • What then do we do with these dozen or so unattributed CWWs here and in the subsequent days below? G12? Send em all to WP:CP? Other? Also, I note the author is AutoPatrolled... CrowCaw 22:33, 9 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • I'd give him a day or two and see if he responds. If not, we've got a problem under Wikipedia:Disruptive editing, especially if he has continued doing this after being advised that he cannot. I don't like being heavy-handed in these situations, either, but this is not just a technicality - copying content without attribution voids the license. I've left him a note also. Let's see where we need to go from here. :/ (I'll remove the autopatrolled flag.) --Moonriddengirl (talk) 22:47, 9 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Sounds good, although it leaves all the copyvios that User:CactusWriter found, which may necessitate a CCI. Oh, this one has been fun. I'ma poke at the backlog at CP for a bit and backburner that. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 16:25, 14 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  • GG23 blocked for re-inserting copyvios, so for now further damage is being prevented. I will watch his page and try to help if he engages in dialog. CrowCaw 19:19, 14 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Checking as per the other "Shooting at..." unattributed CWWs.
