Hugo Refachinho created File:V02.png, File:V03.png, and File:V05.png. Jojovic78 created File:V07.png. As is plain to see, these are all different versions of the same map, which is made more obvious by the naming. Jojovic78 has since been blocked as a WP:SOCK of Hugo Refachinho based on WP:CheckUser evidence. On October 28, Jojovic78 added File:V07.png to Portuguese Empire with the edit summary "updated map" and marked that as a WP:Minor edit, see diff. On November 27, Xuxuferreira added File:V07.png to Portuguese Empire with the edit summary "updated map" and marked that as a WP:Minor edit, see diff. This is what initially raised my suspicions, but there are other similarities with known WP:SOCKS, both linguistically and in terms of editing patterns. One of those is the consistent use of the spelling "whit": Xuxuferreira diff 1 and 2, Carlosseixascoimbra diff ("whitout"), Museufozcoa diff, Userlike diff 1 and 2, Hugo Refachinho diff 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9. This edit by Xuxuferreira to Eritrea reinserted File:Mar Vermelho 29.png, a file created by Hugo Refachinho that had initially been added to that article by Hugo Refachinho (diff) and later reinserted by Jojovic78 (diff) after being removed. This edit and this edit by Xuxuferreira to Suakin match this edit by Hugo Refachinho extremely well.

I'd also like to invite WanderingGeeljire, who apparently pieced this together before I did, to share their thoughts. I see they reported Xuxuferreira earlier, though they seem to have had some problems with the formatting and such and self-reverted the edit where they provided the evidence (Special:Diff/990222488). Hi TompaDompa here is what I'd like to add about Hugo

I removed some of the maps added here [1]. However, a new account appeared called Xuxuferreira and restored what I removed. [2]

He also restored user-generated maps made by Hugo Refachinho and uses typical words "inserted map of the Portuguese": [3].

He uses the exact same words on his main account that got banned: [4]

    • I know you can't CU it, but 85.240.10.111 (talk · contribs · WHOIS) is adding Hugo Refachinho's maps as well. I'll sock-reverted their edits. Users Alanhammed (talk · contribs), OxyAla (talk · contribs), DUERODUERO (talk · contribs), and 2001:8A0:6756:9B01:49B:ECDD:CD70:1933 (talk · contribs) restored maps by confirmed sock Hugo Refachinho at Battle of Wayna Daga, Ottoman–Portuguese_conflicts_(1538–1559), and Battle of Baçente. They have no other contributions at the English WP, Alanhammed has 5 at the Portuguese WP, see pt:Especial:Contribuições/Alanhammed, where 4 of his total 5 edits inserted or restored maps by Hugo Refachinho, some of which had recently been deleted with an edit summary explicitly stating the sock problem.   • I see enough from a behavioral analysis to support that this user is a suspected sock (WP:BEANS, but I'll elaborate if needed). Posslikely contributes a little to this conclusion.   • Although I also encourage providing limited and useful diffs, I've done a look myself and can see a connection between this sock and the sockmaster's previous socks (including Choooseala1). Andrebotelho1624 added a map created by Hugo Refachinho to Portuguese Empire with the edit summary "Inserted reference of portuguese in Africa".[9] Ruyandrada added a map created by themself to Portuguese Empire with the edit summary "Inserted reference of Persian Gulf".[10] Neither account has made any other edits to English-language Wikipedia. OK, I'll go ahead and close this since there's nothing left to do here. But, for future reference, it really does help if you can provide diffs of the behavior you're describing. You noted "maps created by Hugo Refachinho". I did some searching of Hugo's contributions and didn't see them. I'm not saying you're wrong, just that to block somebody, I need to have evidence. Both user names are making the same edit with the same kind of attacking edit comments to the Battle off Hormuz (1625) article. Both accounts have been blocked indefinitely on pt.wikipedia.org. Has again uploaded a map from World History Encyclopedia ([23][24]), which a previous sock also did (see Commons:Commons:Deletion requests/File:World History Encyclopedia-1415-1999.png and SPI archives). I was asked for my input above. I agree, this is a pretty clear WP:DUCK. A new editor adding maps by Hugo Refachinho to articles and creating additional maps in the same style (see File:Portuguese India 16-17th centuries.png by Hugo Refachincho on the one hand and File:Portuguese India 16-17th centuries v04.gif and File:Portuguese India 16-17th centuries v05.jpg by Ferraralentejo on the other—it isn't exactly subtle) is an obvious example of a pattern that is very familiar by now. These two accounts look like the same user, or meatpuppets if not. Identical interests and POVs, overlapping similar edits to same articles, etc. Both still active as of 11 May 2024.

  • Substantially repeating each other's edits to the same articles, e.g.: 
    • Qatar: re-adding the same map as Verride: [25], [26].
    • Iraq: re-adding the same map repeatedly added by Verride: [27], [28], [29], [30].
    • Yemen: Verride adds a paragraph ([31]) and Azeitedemoura re-adds substantially the same paragraph later ([32]: see 3rd paragraph, much of the wording is clearly identical, minus some fresh grammatical problems).
  • They've edited the same articles elsewhere, sometimes at the same times, e.g.: 
  • Similar POV edits overall, but a specific example are the unsourced additions of "Portuguese victory" to some battles, e.g.: [35], [36]
  • They both frequently mark many non-minor edits as "minor" (see their contribution histories).
