Johnyajohn (2008-07-07)[edit]

More Marilyn Monroe editing, with particular focus on the subject's death. I had already blocked Ibm534a. See also Wikipedia talk:Requests for arbitration/Octavian history. -- Gyrofrog (talk) 14:05, 7 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

P.S. Joe1p1p's second edit was to archive part of Talk:Marilyn Monroe, IMO a relatively advanced task for an ostensibly new user. The discussions in question overlap the previous round of sockpuppetry. And this edit bears a now-familiar style in edit summaries. -- Gyrofrog (talk) 16:58, 7 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

IP blocked Yojg on an open proxy.

Red X Unrelated. Aaron Schulz 12:06, 10 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • I probably should have mentioned it here earlier (my apologies), but I went ahead and blocked the Joe1p1p account. I did not take the "Unrelated" result lightly (although I also noticed the involvement of an open proxy in the same result).
  1. I believe this passes the "quacks like a duck" test in any case.
  2. User:Octavian history had previously threatened to suggested he could take measures to conceal his IP address ([1],[2]). Personally I am surprised there hasn't been an earlier attempt at concealment.
  3. Regarding his statement, "There are millions of people who beleive the same thing, and so many books about it". I suggest scanning Talk:Death of Marilyn Monroe and comparing how often this same assertion has been made, and by whom (here are some diff links [3], [4],[5],[6]).
  4. The second and third edits made by the Joe1p1p account were to archive part of the Talk:Marilyn Monroe page. ([7],[8]). This is a relatively advanced task for an ostensibly new user. The last person to archive the talk page ([9],[10]), User:Star-in-law, had already been associated with the Octavian_history account. In both cases they removed (from the active talk page) discussions critical of the purported sex tape that was in the news a couple of months ago (see my comments on the RFCU page about this appearing to be "damage control").

Johnyajohn (2008-05-13)[edit]

More Marilyn Monroe editing following recent media coverage. Writing style, edit summaries resemble those of Octavian history (talk · contribs), who was blocked on January 28 for sockpuppetry: link. That the edits are ostensibly critical of recent events makes me suspect that the latest edits are an attempt at damage control. As a side note, there was an RfAR about 2.5 months ago that was eventually moved to Wikipedia talk:Requests for arbitration/Octavian history; I'm not sure whether it's still open or not. -- Gyrofrog (talk) 14:43, 13 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • Let's put this on the high side of  Possible or even  Likely. Thatcher 04:05, 14 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

 Relisted
(2008-05-19) FWIW, I have just blocked new account Ae2578277 (talk+ · tag · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log · CA · CheckUser(log· investigate · cuwiki) based on talk page edits very similar to those by Star-in-law and Samcontacto:

-- Gyrofrog (talk) 06:32, 19 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

(2008-05-21) As long as this is still open(?), would it be possible to check for any sleeper accounts? (like perhaps Eric49-025 (talk+ · tag · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log · CA · CheckUser(log· investigate · cuwiki)) Thanks, -- Gyrofrog (talk) 03:30, 21 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

P.S. Sorry, I missed the part in "/Procedures" that said "should be moved back to the pending section." -- Gyrofrog (talk) 16:08, 21 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  •  Confirmed Ae2578277 and Eric49-025. No other sleepers at the moment. Thatcher 00:27, 22 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Blocked Eric49-025. Are they the same as the earlier two accounts? Thank you, -- Gyrofrog (talk) 02:16, 22 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • They're the same user as Star-in-law. Thatcher 02:48, 22 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Johnyajohn (2008-03-19)[edit]

Octavian history (talk · contribs), who is associated with the accounts in the previous RFCU, was blocked on January 28 for sockpupetry: link. User:Marilyn-goddess is making similar edits to Marilyn Monroe, namely the restoration of text regarding Jack Clemmons (link). Octavian_history created the latter article; Marilyn-goddess has suspiciously few edits to be citing consensus and verifiability concerning the mention of Clemmons. -- Gyrofrog (talk) 11:25, 19 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

 Possible. Thatcher 12:40, 19 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • P.S. Added an IP address to this request, sorry I didn't have this earlier. Same ISP as numerous addresses from previous RFCU. -- Gyrofrog (talk) 15:26, 19 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • No comment on the IP address, due to the privacy policy. In general, IPs that act like banned users can be treated as such without checkuser confirmation. Thatcher 17:11, 19 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Johnyajohn (2008-02-19)[edit]

See WP:RFAR#Request for appeal: Octavian history.

Comment received: "Dear sir, I am not him, but a family member. If you look at his history you will notice he has not done a single vandalism or unconstructive edit. He has also fought against vandals. There are thousands of people who attack wiki every minute with vandalism. I truly can't believe that you would not side with someone who has tried hard to create and improve so many articles. Two of the puppets were friends and family members, not the 100 that have been named. Also, we did not know that friends and family cannot agree about the same subject. I can easily never work on any article that he does from now on if that helps" [11]

Request a recheck on the sockmaster's range for other socks, and a decision. No action taken so far. FT2 (Talk | email) 19:59, 19 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • All previous findings reconfirmed. Several accounts listed below are editing from the same IP and computer at nearly overlapping times. Other accounts as listed editing from a public terminal or a different ISP in the same city. Accounts marked as stale were not checked. The IPs in question are relatively stable for longish periods so a broader range check is not indicated. Obviously, checkuser can not see who is sitting at the screen at any given moment. However, note that Hasan075 was created and voted in Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Hajj Amin Elahi just 4 minutes after Octavian history's last edit to the same AfD. Johnyajohn[edit]

User:Octavian_history, who had his account name changed from Persianhistory2008 [12], is an active editor and suspected sockpuppet of User:Johnyajohn and is thought to be the same editor as User:Bobtoo, who has been blocked indefinitely. [13]. I believe that Octavian_history is evading the community sanctions placed on Bobtoo, and his edits make it clear that he is continuing the pattern of harassment, accusations and threats that got him banned when using the Bobtoo account. I am requesting an IP check to confirm that the editor Johnyajohn and Bobtoo, as well as all their suspected sockpuppet accounts, are indeed the same user, in which case a block of the currently active sockpuppet, Octavian_history, would be appropriate. Octavian_history is currently under a 24 hour block, but I request it be made indefinite as soon the relation between these accounts are confirmed. The suspected sockpuppet accounts of Johnyajohn have been documented here: [14], and those of Bobtoo are documented here: [15]. The suspected sockpuppets of Persianhistory2008 are documented here [16]

Bahram Elahi created by Bobtoo, and speedily deleted on August 9, 2007 [17] then recreated by Octavian_history on January 10, 2007 [18]
  • Harrassment and threats – there is a similar pattern of aggressive and uncivil behavior towards other editors:
  • Chronology - The pattern of accounts and IP addresses and the dates they were in use when combined with the history of the pages that were edited, provide a map of how this user uses sockpuppets to make it look like there is consensus where there is none, as well as to bully and harass people from multiple angles.

Thank you for your prompt attention in this matter. Global.wiki (talk) 17:30, 20 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Comment: I would say that Global.wiki's assessment on this page is correct. Furthermore: I just noticed that article Cecil W. Stoughton (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs) also shows clear overlap between Bobtoo, 68.175.71.18, and Octavian_history. I've long suspected a relationship between Bobtoo and the other accounts, but was unsure there was enough evidence until Global.wiki pointed out the "Bahram Elahi" article. This edit by 68.175.71.240 actually ties a lot of this together (I have been extremely hesitant to point this out, but try Googling the name mentioned in that edit). See also User_talk:Johnyajohn#June_2007, where I had summarized this last June. Note that I am the one who placed the current 24-hour block on Octavian_history, and was also the target of both Bobtoo and 68.175.71.240's legal threats (Oversight-L deleted 68.175.71.240's threats). -- Gyrofrog (talk) 18:20, 20 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
P.S. In his unblock request, Octavian_history claimed I had been harassing him "for the past year" ([33]). I thought this was rather telling, seeing how the account only dates from November. -- Gyrofrog (talk) 23:39, 20 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Update - Jan. 27: I've also added Kurdestani (talk+ · tag · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log · CA · CheckUser(log· investigate · cuwiki) and 198.22.123.103 (talk+ · tag · contribs · filter log · WHOIS · RBLs · proxy check · block user · block log · cross-wiki contribs · CheckUser (log)) to the list of suspected socks. Kurdestani started editing after Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Hajj Amin Elahi was re-opened on Jan. 26. Kurdestani ([34],[35],[36],[37]) and Octavian_history ([38],[39]). are both undoing User:Teleomatic's {{fact}} tags in the Hajj Amin Elahi article. 198.22.123.103 (apparently a Best Buy store) has also chimed in today at both the AFD and the article. -- Gyrofrog (talk) 00:06, 27 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Update - Jan. 28 As long as this is still open, please also check Musicspotgreen (talk+ · tag · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log · CA · CheckUser(log· investigate · cuwiki), who has only edited the "Hajj Amin Elahi" article and its AfD. Also, when you mention Equinoximus, I assume that you meant "confirmed?" Thanks, -- Gyrofrog (talk) 03:52, 28 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
D'oh! Sorry, I went straight to this case's subpage and did not see that this had already been moved to "Completed." -- Gyrofrog (talk) 03:56, 28 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Red X Unrelated - Alison 06:44, 28 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, I would say  Likely that Musicspotgreen (talk · contribs) = Franklyon (talk · contribs), and  Inconclusive regarding Octavian history (same city, different ISP). Thatcher 07:43, 28 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Johnyajohn[edit]

Code Letter: C for ongoing vandalism. I'll keep it short and simple. The article Elonka Dunin (and articles of other notable Dunin relatives) have received numerous vandalism from new accounts and IP addresses. All of the above has either vandalised the article or attempted to put the article up for deletion (even though there was a recent AFD and the result was "keep"). Harangus and Johnyajohn deny that they are related to any of the IP addresses.

This a sample of the vandalism carried out by these accounts. [40] [41] [42] [43] [44] [45] [46] [http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Elonka_Dunin&diff=78197654&oldid=78195183 [47] [48]

It be greatly appreciated if a sockpuppet check would be carried out to determine if the accounts {user|Harangus}}and Johnyajohn (talk · contribs) are also using IP addresses to carry out vandalism and if they are the same user. Thanks. Englishrose 17:44, 1 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
