Comments are very welcome on the Talk page, and will be read, in full. Evidence, no matter who can provide it, is very welcome at /Evidence. Evidence is more useful than comments.

Statement by {GreekWarrior}[edit]

I am a proud Greek, yes it is true I do not believe the Srebrenica Massacre occurred, and I *do* believe that eventually there will be a final showdown between Greece and Turkey and I will be proud to fight for Greece against them. But this is besides the point, I have made many good articles, Tony Sidaway can show you these, even he knows about them. But..... I am asking that I a) be unbanned or b) have my sentence of indefinate ban commuted to a ban of a set time period. I believe my devotion to Byzantine topics is at least something that should be taken into account.
UPDATE Ok, I can understand if you don't believe I will change my ways, to be honest a lot of what I did was to get a rise out of people, some of it was genuine anger, but here is my proposal, the ArbCom gives me a ban of fixed time and then fixes some kind of 'suspended sentence' on me and I will get a Permanent Ban upon ANY infringement in future. There is still a lot of work I need to do in topics relating to Greek Culture. Especially greek dance.

Statement by Tony Sidaway[edit]

I was involved in attempts to get GreekWarrior to modify his behavior, and ultimately in negotiating a community-supported long block when these attempts failed. On his recent return and resumption of disruptive editing I supported a further community ban. I have been in communication with him in email in which I said I did not feel that even his high quality contributions outweighed his very inflammatory attacks on muslims, Turks and others, but advised him that he could try appealing to the Arbitration Committee. And here we are. --Tony Sidaway 13:37, 6 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

He does show great willingness to contribute so perhaps mentorship might be the way to go. --Tony Sidaway 03:09, 8 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Statement by uninvolved user Future Perfect at Sunrise[edit]

Just for the record: GreekWarrior (probably identical with NickOfCyprus (talk · contribs) and several known IPs) was community indef banned for repeated, blatant ethnic insults and hate speech ([1], [2], [3]), as well as self-admitted block evasion during an earlier 6-months block ([4]), which had been imposed for the same reasons. Evidence is at his RFCU, an older WP:AN debate, and the recent WP:ANI debate that lead to his latest ban. I can testify that he has made some decent contributions to Byzantine-related topics, but he doesn't seem to show any willingness to change his completely unacceptable behaviour. Comment by Improv[edit]

This user's userpage was once a textbook case (focusing on but not exclusive to Image:Hellenicrepublic1.jpg ) for inflammatory, divisive, and poisonous content, and his statement above illustrates that his combative attitude and urge to fight will continue. I strongly urge the arbitration committee to reject the appeal and let the block stand. Even if he has made some positive contributions, the damage to the community and the project (relating to whom it drives away) far outweighs the good he can do. --Improv 17:46, 6 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Preliminary decisions[edit]

Arbitrators' opinion on hearing this matter (4/0/0/0)[edit]

Temporary injunction (none)[edit]

Final decision[edit]

All numbering based on /Proposed decision (vote counts and comments are there as well)

Principles[edit]

Community bans and second chances[edit]

1) Users who exhaust the community's patience, repeatedly engaging in disruptive behavior, may be banned upon community consensus. However, banned users with prior productive edits who believably repent of their previous behavior and promise to edit constructively may be readmitted under restriction.

Findings of Fact[edit]

GreekWarrior banned[edit]

1) GreekWarrior was banned by the community for severe disruptive behavior, including racist comments, personal attacks, edit warring, block evasion with sockpuppets, vandalism, and general trolling. [5] (evidence) In response, GreekWarrior has brought this arbitration case, acknowledging his mistakes ("I was clearly wrong on these occasions" and "I have admitted I was wrong. I will try to change.") and promising only constructive edits if allowed back.

GreekWarrior has recently used a disruptive sockpuppet for evasion[edit]

2) CheckUser confirms that on October 24, after his promises of reform, GreekWarrior registered the account DigenisAkritas (talk ·  contribs) and used it to evade his ban. The account was used, among other things for racist slogans and threatening solicitation of meatpuppetry.
