Humblefool[edit]

Final (30/4/0) ending 01:59 2 August 2004 (UTC)

I have no idea how long I've been here... I think it's under a year, since I got this comuter for NaNoWriMo 2004, but I digress. 600 odd edits to both the article and WP: namespaces. I use VfD often, stemming from everybody's favorite relaxation game, Newpages patrol. I was involved in the Iasson RfAr. What can I say? The mop has its call, and those of us who want the work answer...

OK, two more things, before they come up: I sometimes forget to preview (as seen by the creation of this page) and I'm a deletionist. - humblefool® 01:59, 26 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

  1. =No Big Deal. Hfool has been consistently impressive within a short period. Slac speak up! 06:35, 26 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

  3. Support Good work on VfD, calm and rational, would make a fine admin. Andrew Lenahan - Starblind 13:14, July 26, 2005 (UTC)
  4. Support. Humblefool impressed me greatly when I inexplicably (to him, anyway) reverted his edits twice, in a case of mistaken identity. He was polite then, and I haven't seen anything different since. Joyous (talk) 15:29, July 26, 2005 (UTC)
  5. Support, I have bumped into the user a couple of times and had no negative experiences; seems to have his head on the right place. --Sn0wflake 15:46, 26 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]
  6. Support. Seems like a good user, has sufficient experience with multiple namespaces, and is a fellow deletionist. I also like the fact that during the recent CSD proposal, he put a notice for that in his signature to remind other people to vote on the proposed changes to policy. --Idont Havaname 17:54, 26 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]
  7. Support my usual "fits the criteria on my userpage" reason, that's sufficent information for me to support Y0u (Y0ur talk page) (Y0ur contributions) 19:30, July 26, 2005 (UTC)
  8. Support I guess he's just got connotations
  9. Support experienced user.  Grue  02:58, 27 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]
  10. Support, I was impressed by his conduct during the Iasson RfC and RfAr and I've seen nothing since to suggest his other conduct has been any less than what I expect of an admin. Thryduulf 10:37, 27 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]
  11. Support. Familiar with WP procedures, and I agree with Thryduulf. --Deathphoenix 16:46, 27 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]
  12. Support I've come across this user's work before and I have no reason to think he'd be anything less than a great admin. Dan100 (Talk) 17:08, July 27, 2005 (UTC)
  13. Support. Always professional and pleasant on VfD. His personalized VfD user talk page message exemplifies the kind of conduct that is expected of an admin. Fernando Rizo T/C 00:54, 28 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Oppose

  1. Oppose 1607 in 13 months isn't very impressive. But edititis isn't why I'm voting against you. You make it known that you are a deletionist. I can respect that. But if the only you want to be an admin is to put pages up for speedy deletion and VfD, I don't think you deserve this job. --Ryan 06:06, July 26, 2005 (UTC)
Comment: Non-admins can and do put pages up for speedies and VfD. Slac speak up! 06:35, 26 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]
I think he meant that admins have more influence over the outcome of such processes, in the sense that users tend to show a little more regard for the opinion of admins... I guess. :P Maybe. --Sn0wflake 15:39, 26 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, that's pretty much it. I don't want someone to become an admin, just so they can do around speeding up the deletion process. If he could do VfDs and Speedy Deletions without Admin, he shouldn't have answered the first question below with that answer. --Ryan 20:08, July 26, 2005 (UTC)
Reading the answer now, I do see where you're coming from... and I don't really have too much of an answer. I'm not concerned with speeding up the deletion process, just closing the old ones. Copyright problems also interests me, if I could find the process for closing reports there. I'm not too involved in nastily contentious articles that might need protection... But I will read WP:AN and related and do what I can there, too.
    Also, where'd the 13 months come from? I started editing for real on 17 November, 2004. That's what, 9 months? humblefool® 20:46, 26 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Humblefool's answer seems fairly reasonable, as VfD could certainly use more people interested in closing discussions. As for speedy deletion, I believe that it does not matter much wether the admin has a tendency to keep or delete articles; there will always be somebody ready to jump at your neck and treat you as if you had commited a federal offence in case you lean too much towards either tendency. I wish I were joking. But I digress. --Sn0wflake 21:24, 26 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Nine months or not, I've seen 3000 edits in six months or less. But it's not fair to compare you to others. I understand all too well that there is life outside of Wikipedia, and we can't donate all our time to editting. I'm considering changing my vote to Neutral. I'll take a closer look at some of your work. I haven't seen you before, so I didn't have much to base my vote on. All I had were your edit count, information on your user page, your answers to the questions below, and a glimpse at your editting. --Ryan 01:30, July 27, 2005 (UTC)
After taking a look at some of the articles you've done substantial work on, I'm still not convinced you are ready for this task. Most of them were stubs or slightly expanded stubs. The article about shaving cream could at least have a picture of a can of Edge or something. I'm sorry, but I think I have to stick to my first instinct on this one. --Ryan 01:38, July 27, 2005 (UTC)
  2. Oppose Editing speed is so slow that he/she could easily be a sockpuppet. ~~~~ ( ! | ? | * ) 12:58, 30 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]
    • I'm a Sockpuppet? I didn't know that! I wonder who's got their hand in me? No, no, go ahead and oppose, but this caught me from left-field. Made me laugh, too. I edit slowly because I like to stop and read things I come across on totally unrelated pages of the Wiki as I'm doing things. humblefool® 20:18, 30 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]
  3. Oppose Not enough edits. Dmn / Դմն 20:02, 30 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]
  4. Oppose for the same reasons as Dmn.--Wiglaf 19:21, 1 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Questions for the candidate
A few generic questions to provide guidance for voters:

1. What sysop chores, if any, would you anticipate helping with? (Please read the page about administrators and the administrators' reading list.)
A. Newpage vandalization, speedy deletion, Vfd closure, rollback (oo, rollback! The antivandal power!), the generic answer, I guess. I'm sure that I'd find something to do.
2. Of your articles or contributions to Wikipedia, are there any about which you are particularly pleased, and why?
A. For a while, I worked on the now defunct substub page, picking random articles and working them up. Abhijeet Sawant, Abiotic components, Adaptive structuration, Agrarian law, Amateur writing, Adam Opel, Amitava Kumar, etc. That was good, in my opinion. I enjoyed that process. Imageboard has been rolling for a while now too.
3. Have you been in any conflicts over editing in the past or do you feel other users have caused you stress? How have you dealt with it and how will you deal with it in the future?
A.I firmly believe that too much wiki a wikiwacko makes. I promise that I'll never forget the point of the Wikipedia: that we're making an encyclopedia, not an argument. Content can always be worked out. Vandals don't bug me; the damage is undo-able. User:Iasson did bug me, but not in a terrible way. There is no problem in the wiki that should drive anybody committed to it away.
Feel free to ask me more questions if these answers seem a little, uh, vauge. I have trouble staying on topic sometimes, especailly to really broad questions.
