Why Sri lanka is a semi presidential republic not parliamentary?[edit]

please answer! i think prime minister in sri lanka has the same power as india, pakistan, bangladesh, much like british south asia do. it is odd to have semi presidential republic in sri lanka despite being colonized by britain. why the government system in sri lanka is very odd compared to pakistan, india, and bangladesh? did sri lanka used to be parliamentary republic? i think when sri linka is still dominion it is led by prime minister, not president. where it come from the semi presidential system in sri lanka? it is ironic to see sri lanka had a semi presidential system. In other words, many french colonies that independent are semi presidential systems. Yourairport (talk) 05:43, 13 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Sri Lanka indeed started as a parliamentary republic after gaining independence, but in 1977 the prime minister J. R. Jayewardene passed an amendment to the constitution of 1972 which created the presidency, modeled after France. A year later the current constitution was written which solidified this change. The 1978 constitution was intended to create a federal state allowing more autonomy for Tamil majority states, in the hope that this would relieve the tensions which were the cause of the Sri Lankan Civil War. See Constitutional history of Sri Lanka. Exactly why a French model was chosen is unclear, but why not? Alansplodge (talk) 14:30, 13 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Pinguinn is mistaken. Ceylon was a parliamentary monarchy, not a republic, from independence in 1948 until the adoption of the Sri Lankan Constitution of 1972, which changed it to a parliamentary republic. DuncanHill (talk) 15:45, 13 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, it was a Commonwealth realm (I had forgotten). Alansplodge (talk) 18:06, 13 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Emotional Intelligence[edit]

What are the types of reasoning in perceiving emotions? -- 09:33, 13 September 2021 Kulawarna

I think you need to tell us more about what this question relates to. There is no reasoning involved in perceiving emotions, or anything else. Reasoning may however be required to make sense of what has been perceived, but that would be highly dependent on the particular circumstances. ("X is sad – why?" "Y suddenly became annoyed, did I say something inappropriate?")
Also, please type (or copy & paste) a string of four of these ~ at the end of your posts (instead of typing those details in. This will automatically sign and time/date them (with UTC, not your local time) so we can keep track or who says what, when, in this transcontinental conversation. {The poster formerly known as 87.81.230.195} 90.200.67.3 (talk) 18:16, 14 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Suryakant Tripathi Birthdate?[edit]

When was Suryakant Tripathi nirala born, as there are different versions of 1896 and 1899. And which one should we use on Wikipedia? ExclusiveEditor Notify Me! 11:37, 13 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

We should probably show both as there seems to be no real consensus...
Ramvilas Sharma makes out a good case for 1899 as the year of Nirala's birth rather than 1896 or 1897, as most historians have it. Sharma gives the day as Tuesday , February 21 - but in 1899 February 21 fell on Monday (Sharma, v. 1, pp. 495ff). The Tuesday is almost certainly correct since Nirala refers to himself as " mangali", i.e., born on Tuesday (mangalvār) , under the influence of Mangal (Mars). In Nirālā: Vyakti aur Kavi ( Varanasi, 1972 ), Ram Avadh Shastri... [that's all I can wring out of the Google "snippet view"] The Return of Sarasvati: Four Hindi Poets (p. 63 footnote).
BUT according to this and this, 21 February 1899 was actually a Tuesday. I'm not sure if we're straying into original research though. Alansplodge (talk) 18:38, 13 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
In the period 1896–1899, 1899 was the only year in which 21 February fell on a Tuesday. The publication in which Sharma makes a case for Tuesday, February 21, 1899 may be the article निरालाजी की कविता ("Niralaji Ki Kavita") published in 1934 in the literary magazine Chand, and perhaps he uses this easily verifiable fact to bolster his argument. If someone who can read Hindi and has access to a library that holds a copy can confirm this, we can cite this directly and bypass the book with its curious error.  --Lambiam 20:37, 13 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I like your optimistic use of "easily". Alansplodge (talk) 23:40, 14 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
