Smartest person[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more redirects. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the redirect's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was delete. plicit 23:39, 23 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The Intelligence article has nothing to say about who the smartest person might be, or whether that's even a meaningful concept. I can't find any other articles that would be a better redirect, so this (as well as smartest woman, and smartest human, which redirects to the equally unsatisfactory human intelligence) should perhaps just be deleted. Lord Belbury (talk) 19:21, 16 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I added the 2x additional nominations to this nomination. I hope that's helpful. Shhhnotsoloud (talk) 07:33, 17 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete as ambiguous and likely to lead to confusion. "Smart" doesn't just mean "intelligent". Shhhnotsoloud (talk) 07:34, 17 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete. While these are quite plausible search terms, there isn't a good target article for them. We don't have lists of high scorers on IQ tests or similar and even if we did that would only be one possible meaning. There are quite a few reality TV shows with "Smartest" in the title but none of them we have articles about are close enough for these to be good redirects to them. Thryduulf (talk) 12:09, 17 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete all - I agree. These appear to have little worth. CoffeeWithMarkets (talk) 20:14, 19 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

A specific geoname that redirects to a general disambiguation page. Retargeted after Karimabad-e Kaffeh was deleted. — Alexis Jazz (talk or ping me) 18:47, 16 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Indian variant[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more redirects. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the redirect's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was keep. (non-admin closure) Compassionate727 (T·C) 17:40, 23 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Although this is the most common name for the variant, I'm unsure whether this should be a disambiguation page.

  1. "Indian variant" seems vague and could refer to a number of things outside of a COVID-19 context
  2. While this is the most internationally-notable variant of COVID-19 which originated from India, it is not the only one: [1]

-- Bangalamania (talk) 17:01, 16 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep I guess the same issues would apply to UK variant but not Kent variant[2] but I'm not sure what other targets there are? Even if India has other variants this seems to be the only one so called. Crouch, Swale (talk) 20:34, 16 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Weak Keep (at least for now). This redirect is becoming popular ([3]) and I can't think of an alternative target. There are 64 mentions in Enwiki of "Indian variant" not all of which are about COVID. Shhhnotsoloud (talk) 07:42, 17 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep (at least for now) this is by far the primary topic for the phrase in current news media, at least in the UK, so is what most people will be looking for. A hatnote (direct or via a dab) is how we should presently handle any other uses. As with many covid-related redirects the best target now isn't necessarily going to be the same as the best target long term, but (a) we need to serve readers now and (b) determining what is the best long-term target is at this point at least partly WP:CRYSTAL. Thryduulf (talk) 12:13, 17 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Weak keep: for current common usage. Unfortunately the names Indian/South African/UK-Kent/Brazilian variants have all prevailed despite the cautions about the stigma and consequences associated with such naming. Djm-leighpark (talk) 20:44, 17 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Well yes the WHO doesn't recommend using locations for names and similar to Wikipedia:Naming conventions (flora)#Don't confuse WP:COMMONNAME with common name the scientific name is more likely appropriate for the title but given news sources do widely use the location name its probably fine for a redirect. Crouch, Swale (talk) 21:30, 20 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep: until such a point where another, more significant meaning of "Indian variant" has emerged. I note that Lineage P.1 has a redirect in place from "Brazilian variant". SpookiePuppy (talk) 19:48, 19 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Weak keep. Though the naming really shouldn't be used, I still see it being used a lot, especially in news articles. 24.150.136.254 (talk) 13:14, 20 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep Although there may be other variants of SARS-CoV-2 first discovered in India, this one is by far the most predominant and so this redirect should be kept. Of course, variants in other fields could arise from India, e.g. baseball or theatre or banking, but if those too are not predominant then the B.1.617 redirect should remain.--A bit iffy (talk) 21:34, 21 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The Border Patrol[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more redirects. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the redirect's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was retarget to Border Patrol. plicit 14:07, 23 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Delete as ambiguous. The only incoming link is from Charles R. Rogers filmography. Shhhnotsoloud (talk) 13:35, 16 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • Retarget to the disambiguation page at Border Patrol. (I fixed the incoming link noted above.) Wondering if the US Border Patrol is the primary topic for Border Patrol, but that's a discussion for another place. - Eureka Lott 16:08, 16 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
    • Actually I agree that retarget to the disambiguation page is more appropriate. Shhhnotsoloud (talk) 07:44, 17 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Disambiguate retarget to the dab page per EurekaLott -- 67.70.27.105 (talk) 07:37, 17 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was retarget to Border guard. plicit 14:07, 23 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

This term is not mentioned in the article and this redirect should be deleted as ambiguous ("border control agent"s exist outside the U.S.). Shhhnotsoloud (talk) 13:34, 16 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Typo unlikely to aid in searches, no significant page views, targets wrong article (Stranger Heads Prevail would be better, but somebody making this typo wouldn't need this redirect to find that page). – Rummskartoffel (talk • contribs) 12:31, 16 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was delete. signed, Rosguill talk 19:10, 24 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

This page started out as an article on a merchant who left some money to the church of England, but which was converted into a redirect in 2009 following Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Edward Budgen. The current target contains no mention of this person, and I wasn't able to find any content on him anywhere else 192.76.8.91 (talk) 15:10, 8 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Redirect from a minor Planet of the Apes character, original article converted to a redirect eight years ago. Not mentioned in the target article. Only incoming link is from Planet of the Apes (TV series) which mentions him once in passing. Delete to make way for Draft:Veska (shopping mall) once it gets accepted or someone else writes an article about the mall. JIP | Talk 11:02, 8 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Redirect was created after template moved to Template:Mets–Yankees rivalry, then the template was deleted and this redirect retargeted. Since Template:Mets–Yankees rivalry does not exist, neither should this redirect. No links or transclusions. Bsherr (talk) 16:00, 3 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
