Pro-Soviet[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more redirects. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the redirect's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was Delete. Nobody is happy with the status quo, and while several retargetting suggestions were proposed none of them gained consensus and significant problems were raised with them, so I find the comments in favour of deletion the strongest. This is without prejudice to an article on the topic. Thryduulf (talk) 03:17, 15 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hmm, I'm not sure if this is the correct target for this, or even if this redirect should exist. I think that this could also reasonably refer to the Bolsheviks, their ideology, Bolshevism, or maybe even the Communist Party of the Soviet Union. TheAwesomeHwyh 16:10, 20 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Relisted to generate a more thorough discussion and clearer consensus.
Relisting comment: There's been a decent amount of discussion, but no clear sign of what should be done with the redirect.

Relisting comment: I'm hoping an additional relist will help to discuss the recent suggestion.

  • This isn't always patriotism, as support for the Soviet Union is not something only expressed by Soviet people, so retargeting there would be misleading. Peter James (talk) 17:39, 7 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment Could we redirect this to Russophilia, possibly? Skarmory (talk • contribs) 22:34, 11 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete Russophilia is the best suggestion I've seen here, but there isn't much explicit coverage of the Soviet Union as such, and has the opposite problem of that the Peter James notes for Soviet patriotism (i.e., "[group]-philia" generally means from those outside the group). It's possible this could ultimately be disambiguated, but I don't see a better option than deletion right now. --BDD (talk) 21:52, 14 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete per BDD. It's likely that an article could be written about Pro-Soviet sentiment, but no such article currently exists and the alternative potential targets are all lacking. signed, Rosguill talk 22:15, 14 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Mark Antony had at least three daughters who were named Antonia. Therefore this is not a great redirect to the wife of Pythodoros. ★Trekker (talk) 16:31, 29 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was retarget to Kashmir#Current status and political divisions. Formally no consensus, but since no one is in favor of the status quo we can implement the redirect. signed, Rosguill talk 17:17, 14 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

WP:XY. Soumya-8974 (he) talk contribs subpages 05:50, 30 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  • Retarget to Kashmir#Current status and political divisions which deals with both areas and links to specific articles. The page view data shows that this is well used, and we have a relevant encompassing topic so there is no reason not to be as helpful to readers as we can. Thryduulf (talk) 20:45, 30 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Thryduulf: Do you mean Kashmir#Current_status_and_political_divisions? ―NK1406 talkcontribs 03:12, 1 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@NK1406: I do indeed, typo now corrected. Thryduulf (talk) 12:39, 1 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Retarget per Thryduulf to Kashmir#Current status and political divisions, which is often a comfortable default for a lot of these unavoidably ambiguous geographical and political redirects in this area. The current target is clearly a WP:XY violation, as Baltistan is clearly distinct from Ladakh, but in this case we do have a good target that exists to solve Kashmir-related ambiguities such as this. ~ mazca talk 12:50, 1 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete. The proposed new target doesn't have anything that would clarify for readers why these two terms would be conjoined in this phrase. This is as confusing as having something like Ontario and Manitoba redirecting to Canada. There's also no meaningful usage: the redirect gets only a single view each week. And incidentally, the current target is actually better than the proposed one, as Baltistan was part of the historic Ladakh region (see Ladakh#Geography). – Uanfala (talk) 18:23, 3 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Not mentioned in target. No other plausible target can be found. Jalen Folf (talk) 05:25, 30 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  • Comment, leaning delete. This artist is actually mentioned at the target, but only as a single entry in the large table in the Standard releases section (it's the third release of 2015). There is also a slightly more than passing mention at Big room house#Criticism but I don't think that would satisfy someone looking for information about them. Wikipedia is not a travel guide. If someone were to type "Things to do in Sydney" they should Google it, or go on Tripadvisor or a travel website. (If someone said "Things to do in Sydney" on the iPhone's Siri it gives them a Wikipedia article instead of a web search/things to do in Sydney.) The result of the discussion was Withdrawn. Apparently, looking at emojipedia, it is expected that "🇺🇸" does not display a flag as Windows does not officially support many flags. Though it is made by combining two separate unicode characters into one. (non-admin closure) Aasim (talk) 17:28, 7 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Propose retargeting to United States. Reason: While it displays as a US flag on mobile, it displays as the letters "US" on desktop. I am using Windows 10 version 2009. Aasim (talk) 05:14, 7 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep. The emoji is defined specifically as the flag of the United States, not the United States itself. The article I linked also briefly explains why it displays that way for unsupported platforms. -- Tavix (talk) 05:37, 7 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep. See 🇨🇦 or 🇲🇽, just because it doesn’t show up for some people doesn’t mean the redirect should be deleted. --Rqkp (talk) 05:42, 7 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
    I am not saying "Delete", I am saying "retarget". Aasim (talk) 07:17, 7 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep per Tavix and Rqkp. The emoji's meaning is defined as the flag so it should target the article about the flag. Thryduulf (talk) 10:43, 7 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep per above, though it would be best if the target actually contained this character sequence (see e.g. Flag of Russia#Unicode, Flag of Croatia#Unicode, Flag of Wales#Modern use). 61.239.39.90 (talk) 11:30, 7 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Do not retarget While there might be a case for deleting this and all other "flag" emoji redirects, the best target is the current one, "flag of [countryname]," per official definition as listed at https://emojipedia.org/flag-united-states/ and the documents it cites. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 15:20, 7 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

There is no mention of this at the target, nor at the previous target Avril Lavigne discography. To quote the edit history: "Almost every artist with a hefty music catalog has an iTunes Essentials package". -- Tavix (talk) 03:52, 7 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete. This seems useless. Dominicmgm (talk) 21:31, 7 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete per nom, unless that compilation is notable in itself, which it isn't. Compare with The Essential disambiguation, which lists albums that have been independently notable from the brand. AngusW🐶🐶F (barksniff) 17:10, 12 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
