Ó Gradáigh[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more redirects. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the redirect's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was keep. (non-admin closure) feminist (talk) 01:41, 14 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Delete: The correct Irish spelling is Ó Grádaigh, with the accent on the first a. Only one page used the redirect from Ó Gradáigh, which is categorically incorrect and which I have corrected, creating the appropriate redirect (Ó Grádaigh) in the process. If we're going to use an accent we may as well have it in the right place. ~ Maltrópa loquace 21:23, 6 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep - while the above commentary is absolutely correct, one purpose of redirects is for misspellings, as long as that misspelling is reasonable (e.g. Pheonix for Phoenix). An editor could very easily misplace the diacritic over the wrong "a". Onel5969 TT me 15:41, 7 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep per Onel, a plausible misspelling. Thryduulf (talk) 09:15, 8 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Unclear why this redirects where it does instead of Penn State Law. Steel1943 (talk) 19:34, 6 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Billy Ray Cyrus' Daughter[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more redirects. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the redirect's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.

Completely pointless redirect? And also, Billy has several daughters so it makes no sense for this to only point to the Miley Cyrus article. NØ 19:20, 6 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete as Billy also has Noah Cyrus as a daughter ("several" is an exaggeration when that term means at least five), rendering this an implausible redirect. SNUGGUMS (talk / edits) 19:28, 6 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete also there is an article for Brandi Cyrus. Pointless redirect. ("Several" can mean more than two but less then many per some dictionaries. Three is enough for that.) Geraldo Perez (talk) 19:41, 6 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete per above. Aoba47 (talk) 20:30, 6 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete per nom. ("Several" is a very, very, very, very vague adjective that's about as clear and useful as the adverb "very".) Steel1943 (talk) 20:42, 6 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Retarget to Billy Ray Cyrus#Personal life where all his daughters are listed and those who have articles are linked. Thryduulf (talk) 09:17, 8 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Just delete. If a person has enough contemporary pop culture awareness at all to know that Billy Ray Cyrus has notable daughters who have their own Wikipedia articles, then that person definitely already knows Miley's name and probably Noah's as well. (Brandi's more of a toss-up, I'll grant.) And in the unlikely event that anybody spent the entire 2010s in a coma or something, this redirect still won't help them anyway — a person who was actually trapped in the liminal space of knowing that Billy Ray Cyrus has notable daughters but not knowing their names would just go to Billy Ray Cyrus and see if daughters were named and linked there, rather than continuing to type past the end of "Billy Ray Cyrus" to add "daughter" to the search term. Redirect from a former member of a council to an article that doesn't actually have his name in it anymore. The borough council is not a level of political office that passes WP:NPOL, so there's no need to retain this -- the article formerly contained a biographical sketch of him, but he was the only councillor in the entire history of the borough who had that, and Wikipedia consensus has long since deprecated the idea that articles about political bodies should transclude extended mini-bios of past or present members who don't actually clear the bar for their own standalone BLPs. The result of the discussion was withdrawn and retargeted. Withdrawn and retargeted by nominator (non-admin closure) NØ 21:00, 6 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

No mention of this song at the target. Apparently it was a track on a nn-album. Richhoncho (talk) 17:27, 6 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Withdrawn by nominator, now redirected to List of songs recorded by Meghan Trainor. Lucky other editors are more familiar with this artist. --Richhoncho (talk) 19:44, 6 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Odd misspelling of the common, simple word multiple: does not support searches, as whoever enters this can reasonably be expected to know the correct spelling. Only used accidentally on an old talk page, here. Request deletion. 92.195.216.165 (talk) 13:58, 6 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

  • Speedy delete per Wikipedia:R3. These typo redirects are useless, and are almost always deleted after RFD discussions anyway due to a lack of reason to keep. Geolodus (talk) 14:37, 6 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
That would not be an option since R3 only applies to recently created redirects and this is over a decade old.--64.229.166.98 (talk) 17:41, 6 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete. Not speediable for the reason the nominator explained, but not useful either. It is not necessary to create a redirect from the misspelling to the correct title every time somebody on Wikipedia makes a typo that generates a redlink — the misspelled link should just be fixed, and does not need to generate a permanent redirect from the typo. Bearcat (talk) 18:09, 6 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I probably sound pedantic here, but 92.195.216.165 and 64.229.166.98 are not the same IP. (It could still be the same person using them though.) Geolodus (talk) 05:28, 7 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete as this has no value when the misspelling is for a redirect, not the official article title. Just fix the spelling whenever someone uses "multiple personality disorder" within article text instead. SNUGGUMS (talk / edits) 19:34, 6 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete per above. Aoba47 (talk) 21:28, 6 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Delete. Refers to a three episode arc of The Bionic Woman and The Six Million Dollar Man, but should it target to the former which had two of these episodes, or to the latter which had part two of the arc? I'd suggest that this question is not worth answering as the malformed title does not make a useful redirect. PC78 (talk) 10:08, 6 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

It seems that this abbreviation can also refer to minor seventh flat five chord (m7b5) instead of dominant seventh flat five (7b5 or M7b5). This ambiguity is a consequence of the first letter in titles being automatically capitalized, maybe a disambiguation page or hatnote can be used to clarify? ComplexRational (talk) 01:58, 6 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I agree, it should be a disambiguation page. Smyth (talk) 10:01, 6 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep. I have added a hatnote which is better than a 2-entry disambiguation page. Shhhnotsoloud (talk) 08:36, 7 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was retarget to Sydney Grammar School. (non-admin closure) B dash (talk) 06:01, 13 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Not a word. According to the article, the correct demonym for Sydney is Sydneysider.  — Mr. Guye (talk) (contribs)  03:31, 28 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Never heard of it. Yes, "Sydneysider". Aoziwe (talk) 11:16, 30 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Relisted to generate a more thorough discussion and clearer consensus.

  • Retarget Sydneians and Sydneian to Sydney Grammar School per Tavix. Shhhnotsoloud (talk) 08:48, 7 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment I was about to close this as retarget to Sydney Grammar School, as I am convinced by Tavix's comment (which I've just seen) and there would be little point in leaving it open longer when all three commenters agree on the best solution. I then noticed that Sydnian (singular) had not been tagged so I've now done that and listed it above, so this does need to be left open for the full week. Thryduulf (talk) 09:27, 8 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
WP:NOTBURO comes to mind; do you think many editors have Sydneian on their watchlist? It would be an WP:INVOLVED close, though, so that's a much better reason to defer. :) --BDD (talk) 18:07, 8 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Notburo isn't a reason to just completely ignore process for the sake of it, and something like this doesn't come close to justifying letting people who watch and/or use a redirect that it will fundamentally change. As for the involved nature, if I'd spotted Tavix's comment before the relisting I don't imagine that even Bdash (who seems to be the fondest of relisting) would close that as anything other than retarget as everyone suggested.
