Misleading redirect. Journal of Criminal Law refers to ISSN 0022-0183, by Sage. Not Journal of Criminal Law & Criminology (or any of its past names) by the Northwestern University School of Law. Headbomb {t · c · p · b} 22:21, 5 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete per nominator and WP:R#D2. WP:PTM redirects are generally a bad idea, particularly when it comes to proper nouns. 59.149.124.29 (talk) 23:54, 5 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete. I can't think of any situation in which "Title A" should redirect to "Title B" when the names are similar but apply to unrelated notable topics. Nyttend (talk) 23:59, 5 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete. A redirect like this could be helpful in cases where the abbreviated title is a much less well-known publication, but in this case the Journal of Criminal Law is published by a major journal publisher and has been around since 1937, so the redirect is potentially quite confusing. – Arms & Hearts (talk) 18:08, 6 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete. If both publications had articles then they should be linked by hatnotes, but that does not mean that redirecting one to the other in the absence of an article is a good idea. Thryduulf (talk) 13:59, 7 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete to avoid redirect.-TonyTheTiger (T / C / WP:FOUR / WP:CHICAGO / WP:WAWARD) 02:36, 8 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete - definitely make a new article on the separate journal (this is also why attaching notes with redirects is important, as I don't remember how/why I created this one) WhisperToMe (talk) 09:33, 10 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

'Yaffe cafe' is not mentioned in 8th Street / St. Mark's Place (Manhattan); the only use of the name is in Mike Hindert. Leschnei (talk) 19:14, 5 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I need to start searching more carefully! Yes, please. But I'm not sure what wiki text to add above, since I used Twinkle to place this here in the first place. Leschnei (talk) 18:48, 6 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Name used to redirect to List of DJ Magazine's Top 100 DJs, which was presumably tangentially related, but potentially defensible as an {{R to list entry}}. However, with the list deleted, this redirect was changed to DJ Mag, which makes it a redirect from a DJ to a seemingly arbitrary magazine about DJs. This redirect needs a better target or it likely should be deleted. Ost (talk) 18:32, 5 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Cat;att[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more redirects. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the redirect's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was no consensus. Opinion is split between "These are useful shortcuts" and "Pseudo-namespace shortcuts are discouraged and these even have typos". Defaulting to do nothing, i.e. keep. Deryck C. 16:47, 13 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Delete. Unlikely typos that create unnecessary cross-namespace redirects. We have regularly deleted the similar WP; redirects. UnitedStatesian (talk) 16:38, 5 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep. Plausible typo - typing a semi colon because you release the shift key a fraction of a second too soon when typing the colon. Declaration I created this redirect, as I was typing in cat;att LOADS of times, and got rather fed up as a result. I still make that error (bloomin' muscle memory...). Stephen! Coming... 17:20, 5 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep RKEEP 5, "Someone finds them useful. Hint: If someone says they find a redirect useful, they probably do. You might not find it useful—this is not because the other person is being untruthful, but because you browse Wikipedia in different ways". I don't understand why such redirects would be deleted, because they're quite harmless and wouldn't have been created if they weren't plausible. I can't quite understand why this typo would occur (how do you release the shift key a fraction of a second too soon), but since it's being made, we ought to serve people who are making it. Nyttend (talk) 11:31, 6 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
    • Comment I thought we historically have applied a higher standard to cross-namespace redirects. UnitedStatesian (talk) 19:49, 6 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete. Pseudonamespace redirects are generally discouraged (see this RfC from 2014). Still, there are good reasons to keep the existing proper shortcuts like CAT:ATT, but not ones that are misspellings of them: in this case there's a combination of a typo (semicolon for colon) and improper capitalisation (lower case instead of the expected all caps). – Uanfala (talk) 12:56, 7 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete per Uanfala. Headbomb {t · c · p · b} 13:22, 7 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep per Stephen and Nyttend. Demonstrably useful and unlikely to be confused with anything else. Thryduulf (talk) 14:06, 7 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Apple peru[edit]

The result of the discussion was delete. Anarchyte (talk | work) 13:11, 14 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Implausible misnomer, more likely to imply an Apple Inc. subsidiary in Peru. - CHAMPION (talk) (contributions) (logs) 05:03, 29 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete per nom. Unlikely target, multiple possible meanings for search term, but none clear enough for a dab page. cymru.lass (talkcontribs) 15:17, 29 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete per nomination. funplussmart (talk) 23:31, 29 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep. "Apple-Peru" is mentioned in the Etymology section in the target. The hyphenated form is also attested in the OED (which could perhaps be cited in the article to indicate that the name isn't used only by Hawthorne). A hatnote for Nicandra (also known as apple-of-Peru) would be appropriate in the target, but I can't find any information in any article on Apple Inc.'s activity in Peru or anything else with which this could plausibly be confused. @Champion: do you want to add apple-peru to this nomination? – Arms & Hearts (talk) 14:49, 30 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • There are also some dab possibilities for Peruvian apple, like Cereus repandus Peruvian apple catcus . AngusWOOF (barksniff) 00:43, 1 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • Weak delete; given the existence of "apple-Peru", "apple Peru" makes sense and "apple-peru" could be useful, but as "Peru" is always a proper noun, someone who hears the phrase would be inclined to capitalise it (and if you're not familiar with the country name, wouldn't you be more likely to use something like "peroo"?), and thus I don't see the combination of no-hyphen and no-capitalisation as particularly plausible. Nyttend (talk) 11:38, 6 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep, given there is nowhere on Wikipedia that discusses an Apple Inc. subsidiary in Peru. -- Tavix (talk) 17:52, 12 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Weak delete I'm not too fussed about the capitalization, but the only other use of this phrase on Wikipedia, at List of poliomyelitis survivors#Retrospective diagnosis, suggests the phrase could also refer to the common tomato. I think Apple Inc. is a red herring in this discussion, but there still may be ambiguity. --BDD (talk) 19:43, 13 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Tube lock[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more redirects. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the redirect's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was keep. (non-admin closure) feminist (talk) 14:37, 12 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Searching for "tube lock" with Google shows several modern uses relating to dentistry, hearing aids, model helicopters, and other mechanical things. Seaching within WP hits none of these - only five occurrences related to firearms. So this may be the best target of existing WP content but still not what most people are trying to find. MB 03:26, 29 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep. If there's only one type of tube lock that's mentioned in the encyclopaedia then this should point to the most relevant article. If there are other topics by the same name that are notable or enyclopaedic then this can be retargeted or turned into a disambiguation page as appropriate when they're actually discussed in the encyclopaedia, but at present there's no better target and no benefit to deleting this. – Arms & Hearts (talk) 14:38, 30 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Diane DiPiaza[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more redirects. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the redirect's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was delete. The motion to delete this redirect due to "Diane DiPiazza" or "Diane DiPiazza" not being mentioned in the redirect target was unanimously adopted by all participants. Concerns were raised by Nyttend that the redirects could not be deleted due to attribution ("legal") reasons, but those concerns were retracted after the discovery of Talk:Misfits_(band)/Archive_1#Merger of Diane DiPiazza, which notes that no content was ultimately merged from these redirects. Based on this and the overall consensus, I have gone ahead and closed this as "delete". TheSandDoctor Talk 08:27, 12 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Bringing from the Help Desk. "Currently this wikilink redirects to Misfits (band), even though DiPiaza was never part of the band. I blanked the page a while back, but someone reverted me [5]. What's the best way to resolve this? Thanks! David O. Johnson (talk) 07:12, 5 November 2018 (UTC)" Legacypac (talk) 07:20, 5 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • Comment. Diane DiPiazza with double zz was merged to Misfits (band) at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Diane DiPiazza. The last article version was [1]. Misfits (band) mentioned her as a former member at the time [2]: "Naming the band after actress Marilyn Monroe's final film The Misfits (1961), Danzig recruited guitarist Jimmy Battle, bassist Diane DiPiazza, and drummer Manny Martínez to fill out the lineup while Danzig himself sang and played the electric piano. Both Battle and DiPiazza left the band after a month of practices." The Google search "Diane DiPiazza" Misfits finds many similar claims but they might have been copied from false claims. She was removed from the article in [3] after Talk:Misfits (band)#First Lineup. PrimeHunter (talk) 10:16, 5 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Further comment The "DiPiazza" page must not be deleted, because the merge history means that it has attribution that must be retained for copyright purposes; see WP:MAD. If desired, the page could be moved somewhere else, e.g. Talk:Misfits (band)/old history. I'm not clear whether the "DiPiaza" redirect's original content were merged or simply removed, but either way, the creator, Squeaky2, also edited "DiPiazza", so sufficient attribution is present with that one alone. This means that there is no copyright/attribution reason that "DiPiaza" must be retained at all. Nyttend (talk) 13:53, 5 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • See my comment below — nothing was merged after all, so there's no need to retain either page for copyright reasons. Nyttend (talk) 23:57, 5 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Also nominating:

for the same reason, so the issue raised by Nyttend can be dealt with at the same time. UnitedStatesian (talk) 17:13, 5 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • Question What do you want to be done with it? Deletion is absolutely not an option, so please explain what you'd like to see. Is my suggestion, Talk:Misfits (band)/old history, something workable in your mind? Nyttend backup (talk) 18:55, 5 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete both since DiPiaz(z)a is not mentioned at the target. Attribution is no longer necessary since nothing that was merged remains at the target. -- Tavix (talk) 19:12, 5 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete both - Saw this discussed at the help desk. I found what looks like a fairly reliable source saying that Diane DiPiazza was briefly in the Misfits, even though she isn't included in the article. [[4]] So that's issue number one. The issue at hand - does a brief tenure with a band, yet no notability otherwise - warrant a redirect to the band's article? I think not. People searching for her are not going to get any satisfaction being redirected. If she's at least mentioned in the article in the former member section, with the source I found, the band's article will come up when people search for her by name in the search box. That's more than enough. So I support the deletion of both redirects. TimTempleton (talk) (cont) 19:27, 5 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Tim and Tavix, deletion is not an option for legal reasons; deletion would break the attribution history for merged content. If no argument for doing something else is advanced, I will speedy close this proposal, because it's unintentionally attempting to create a copyright infringement. Nyttend (talk) 19:31, 5 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I disagree with your assessment. There is no merged content at the target, so there is no attribution required. -- Tavix (talk) 19:34, 5 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
My apology; I just discovered Talk:Misfits_(band)/Archive_1#Merger of Diane DiPiazza to this article, which notes that no content was merged. Nyttend (talk) 19:45, 5 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete both. Neither is mentioned in the target or any other article, with the exception of Lodi High School (New Jersey), which contains a an unsourced mention that is not a viable target. – Arms & Hearts (talk) 17:52, 6 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete both since I only posted the nomination over from the help desk as a housekeeping matter, I'll vote based on the findings that nothing was merged and there is no good reason to talk about the subject at the target. Legacypac (talk) 18:03, 6 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
