Earse[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more redirects. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the redirect's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was retarget Erse. Deryck C. 12:37, 10 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I'm having a hard time finding a connection. "Earse" isn't mentioned at the target and wikt:earse doesn't exist. My search was dominated by misspellings of erase or ears. -- Tavix (talk) 22:31, 2 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep, apparently an old name for the language [1]. – Uanfala (talk) 23:18, 2 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep Retarget to Erse per Uanfala. There is also a passage in the Samuel Johnson article that says that Johnson once entered into a dispute "over the authenticity of James Macpherson's Ossian poems, claiming they could not have been translations of ancient Scottish literature on the grounds that 'in those times nothing had been written in the Earse [i.e. Gaelic] language'" (emphasis added). -- Notecardforfree (talk) 00:09, 3 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • And for those wondering, as I was, where that name comes from, the OED says it's from the same Old English root as "Irish", and was the word that the folks from the (Scots-speaking) Lowlands called the Scottish Gaelic–speaking fellas in the Highlands. And it was also occasionally used to refer to the Irish language, so I'm wondering if this isn't getting borderline dabable now. – Uanfala (talk) 01:21, 3 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
    • Dabable it is indeed. Erse is already a dab page (and the OED gives Earse and Erse as spelling variants) so scrap my keep !vote above and instead retarget there. – Uanfala (talk) 01:25, 3 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
      • I agree, redirect to the dab page Erse. I was responsible for creating this redirect long ago (I don't remember why, but possibly because of the Samuel Johnson reference quoted above). I think I would have redirected to "Erse" even back then, if the dab page existed and if I had known about it! Andrew Dalby 09:49, 3 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Retarget to Erse per Uanfala. --Lenticel (talk) 00:02, 5 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was (batch closure) delete as unopposed. Deryck C. 12:40, 10 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Alternative Press Award[edit]

Not mentioned in target article. Alternative Press Music Awards may be a possible retargeting option, but it seems that the target of the redirect may be eligible for WP:REDLINK as a standalone subject unrelated to Alternative Press Music Awards. Steel1943 (talk) 22:13, 2 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Portfolio selection, management, and performance[edit]

The title of this redirect seems so WP:PRECISE that it is actually incorrect. Steel1943 (talk) 21:58, 2 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Alternative Portfolio Selection models[edit]

Unclear what the use of the word "alternative" is meant to exclude. Also, Portfolio selection model, Portfolio selection models, Portfolio Selection model and Portfolio Selection models do not exist. Steel1943 (talk) 21:56, 2 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Alternative One[edit]

No evidence that this is an alternative name for the target article's subject. Possibly an invented name. Steel1943 (talk) 21:28, 2 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Alternative Olmec origin speculations.[edit]

Unlikely, WP:COSTLY redirect due to the period at the end of the redirect's name. (Alternative Olmec origin speculations has been created to remedy the period issue.) Steel1943 (talk) 21:26, 2 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Target article is unclear on what the term "Alternative" is meant to exclude. Steel1943 (talk) 20:03, 2 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete all the article isn't a list of adjectives. Searching for alternative names or alternative terms would be more appropriate. AngusWOOF (barksniff) 20:09, 2 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete all per nom. -- Notecardforfree (talk) 00:25, 3 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete. These don't make sense. They were created 9 years ago via a move here. Presumably what they were trying to get at was something along the lines of, "alternative adjectives for the common way of referring to U.S. citizens, which is 'American'". It didn't make sense as an article title, and it doesn't make sense as a redirect, as it's difficult to think of a case where anyone would ever type in or come across this phrase.--Cúchullain t/c 23:07, 7 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Unclear why the term "alternative" has to be exclusive to anything "non-rocket", or even that "access to space" is exclusive to "spacelaunch". In fact, Access to space doesn't exist. Steel1943 (talk) 19:59, 2 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was keep, now that the term as been added to the target. -- Tavix (talk) 00:33, 12 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Phrase is not mentioned in the target article, nor is there evidence presented in the article that this phrase is an alternative name for the subject. Steel1943 (talk) 19:57, 2 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for getting in touch with me about this. The term "alternative aggression" is used in Odd Girl Out, one of the seminal books on the topic. See especially pp. 8–9. FWIW I added the redirect because I could never remember the name that other Wikipedians had assigned to the article.
If you do not mind taking your time to educate me, is it standard to require evidence that a redirect term is an alternative term used to refer to the topic of an article? -- Marie Paradox (talk) 20:31, 2 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Marie Paradox: My apologies for the delayed response; I started performing a lot of edits here, and just noticed this. I'd say that if this term could be added to the lead paragraph, that may be enough, but preferably with a reference added such as the one you mentioned above. Steel1943 (talk) 01:37, 3 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Steel1943: there is no need to apologize; I found your response to be quite prompt. I have made edits to the "relational aggression" page along the lines you have suggested. Do you feel there is anything else that needs to be done? -- Marie Paradox (talk) 03:14, 3 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Keep for the reasons mentioned above. -- Marie Paradox (talk) 19:42, 8 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Alternative arrangements[edit]

This issue with these redirects is that they don't redirect to an encyclopedic subject by this name. But rather, the section which these redirects target explains an aspect of the article's subject, but the subject is just about arrangements while identifying them with the adjective "alternative". Also, the section's text uses the phrase "alternative executive arrangements", which is not a title or a letter/punctuation variation of these redirects. Two issues here ... the vagueness of the word "other" since the word is not clear on what it is meant to exclude, and the target article isn't correct anyways. According to the target article, the subject of the article is about objects in the Solar System or galaxies, not about the Solar System or galaxies themselves. Makes sense that its an abbreviation, but that's going over board unless it can be proven to be very common like RHTDM, DDLJ where they were marketed and popularly known by their short-forms. §§Dharmadhyaksha§§ {Talk / Edits} 10:17, 2 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
