Black friday(Album)[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more redirects. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the redirect's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was delete. --BDD (talk) 20:43, 15 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Delete, there are too many things wrong with this redirect to be useful as a search term. For one, all albums are proper names, so the F in Friday should be capitalized. There should be a space between Friday and (album), and "album" is not a proper noun so it shouldn't be capitalized. That's three strikes against it, so it should be out. -- Tavix (talk) 22:10, 7 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep. This is an artifact of old pagemoves and helps to preserve the attribution history. Redirects from old typos are not a problem for the project. No opinion on whether it should stay as a section redirect to Black Friday#Music or be returned to the original target which is now at Black Friday (Indian Ocean album). Rossami (talk) 04:12, 8 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
When a page is moved, the attribution history moves with it, so there's nothing that needs to be "preserved." The history of that page is now at Black Friday (Indian Ocean album), not this redirect. -- Tavix (talk) 15:11, 8 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete per nom, three typos ( "f"riday, "y(", "A"lbum ) -- 70.51.44.60 (talk) 06:04, 8 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete. Garbled nonsense; has no edit history so the rationale to keep it for attribution is false. Softlavender (talk) 03:00, 9 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Not explained at the target article. The subject of this redirect seems to have some sort of connection to Kryptonite lock per search engine results, but the subject is not mentioned there either. Seems to be German slang for McDonald's. Not mentioned in the article, does not appear to be particularly commonplace. Taylor Trescott - my talk + my edits 17:03, 7 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete. not mentioned in the German WP article either. DGG ( talk ) 19:28, 7 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete WP:NOTDIC Wikipedia is not a translation dictionary. This is the English Wikipedia not the German Wikipedia. This is a U.S. company, not a German one, so no particular affinity for German. -- 70.51.44.60 (talk) 06:05, 8 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete. It must have seemed like a good idea 11 years ago, but I don't recall why. —Guanaco 17:26, 8 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  • "Der Schotte" is german for "the Scotsman". I found a number of sources connecting the name to McDonalds Corp but none that I've found yet are more authoritative than blog posts. See here, here and here to list a few. No way to tell if they are truly independent sources, however, or even if they originally trace back to Wikipedia itself. Keep if someone can come up with an authoritative source, otherwise delete. Rossami (talk) 03:12, 15 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

This is a common business/food name. The McDonald's variation is not mentioned in the article or anywhere on the wiki. Taylor Trescott - my talk + my edits 17:01, 7 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  • Comment: There actually is one mention of "Salads Plus" that I could find. It's in Ira Losco, a Maltese singer, which mentions that she did some advertising for Salads Plus in her home country. It's a very minor mention though. Even in my searches, I couldn't find a lot of information. If anyone can find enough info, it might be worth a listing at List of McDonald's products. Until then, I think deletion is the best course of action. -- Tavix (talk) 22:27, 7 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete generic food product promotional name, no particular affinity for the McDonald's product (like "cheesburger") -- 70.51.44.60 (talk) 06:07, 8 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete. This might have been valid in the past when McDonald's was advertising Salads Plus, and people were likely to search for this. Now it's more likely someone would search for a local restaurant by this name and be misleadingly redirected to McDonald's. —Guanaco 17:33, 8 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete as potentially misleading --Lenticel (talk) 01:05, 12 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

This redirect has been re-targeted on several occasions to various caste articles. However, none of those articles refer to the term (supposedly it is a clan) and I can find no reliable sources to support its existence. Sitush (talk) 10:34, 7 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  • Comment possibly retarget to Pipra (Purba) which seems to have a double name in the title, instead of a disambiguator. Or to Deep Roy as a surname redirect -- 70.51.44.60 (talk) 06:24, 10 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Not that close - target translates as "the golden one". Neelix modified it perhaps OR. Legacypac (talk) 09:30, 7 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, cool - Google says it means "The Golden" now. However Gilded translates to Dorado as well. Gilded is gold plated. Pretty sure the term has always referred to chunks of Gold, not a little gold as in gilded.Legacypac (talk) 13:53, 7 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Neelix took this section "The origin of the name Tlemcen (Berber and Algerian Arabic: Tlemsan) is uncertain, but the word has a Berber structure. One theory traces the name to the Berber words Tala Imsan which means "the dry spring" to create the redirect. I bet there are plenty of dry springs in the world, and no one expects to get this city when they search for "dry spring" Legacypac (talk) 09:26, 7 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  • Strong delete there are many dry springs in the world. or weak retarget to Spring (hydrology) and add information about the lifetime of springs there -- 70.51.44.60 (talk) 06:10, 8 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep. I would expect this is how many people might look for him, if only because of the very well-know Sir Gawain and the Green Knight. In fact, it's the name I would first try. DGG ( talk ) 19:27, 7 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  • According to the 2007 version of the target, the Brythonic form of her name was *vino-hibirā, which Neelix created too: Vino-hibirā. I cannot find any source to back this name up, and it is no longer in the article, so delete them both. Gorobay (talk) 14:40, 7 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Middle+Family name redirect by Neelix. Not useful and could easily refer to someone else. Legacypac (talk) 09:13, 7 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

For a Hispanic individual, the 2nd part of the full name is not a middle name: it's the father's surname; the 3rd part of the name is the mother's surname. See [WP:Spanish naming customs]]. As that article says "ften, the practice is to use one given name and the first surname only," This redirect is therefore not useful, but a redirect from Rafael Carlos would be. Even if this individual does not use the conventional Spanish system, people might still reasonably look for him as if her did.

Full name is "João Henrique Pataco Tomás" according to article. A whole bunch of partial name mix and matches, this time to a football player. By Neelix Legacypac (talk) 08:12, 7 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

He's Portugese, so Portuguese name is relevant in this case the same as the Spanish : we need a redirect from Joah Pateco and the corresponding form with diacritics, , neither of which we have. None of the ones here seem useful. (FWIW, the ptWP has no redirects from alternate forms.) DGG ( talk ) 18:54, 7 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
(I'm Portuguese) delete'em all No one knows him for anything else other than João Tomás, I guess that is why there are no redirects at ptWP. DGG, Why would we need such a strange redirect as "Joah Pateco"? Joah? It is not Portuguese, nor any English form of João that I had ever met (you meant Joao, maybe?) Why Pateco? The name is Pataco ('a', not 'e') and virtually no one will look for either anyway, and the search engine should get them there just fine. - Nabla (talk) 23:29, 7 December 2015 (UTC) PS: "Joao Tomas" could be a redirect, if the search engine care for the differences a/ã and á/a - Nabla (talk) 23:30, 7 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I well understand that's the only name her uses, but someone may not know that. My typing is careless, even in English. Sorry,. DGG ( talk ) 00:39, 8 December
DGG, So, when your said "Joah Pateco" you meant... "Joao Tomas"? "Joao Pataco"? It is hard to guess this way.
I don't know what "João Tomás" (and his family and friends) call him. May as well be Pataco, because it is somewhat fun and surely uncommon, but that is irrelevant and guessing. But I doubt anyone will look for anything other than "João Tomás"/"Joao Tomas" because that is what you'll find on most match reports and goal scorer lists (some may have more names, I guess) - Nabla (talk) 11:02, 11 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

2015 (UTC) DGG ( talk ) 00:39, 8 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep "João Henrique Pataco" (Joao Henrique Pataco) and "João Pataco" (Joao Pataco) per DGG on Portuguese naming. -- 70.51.44.60 (talk) 06:23, 8 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
    • Keep {{R from typo}} and {{R without diacritics}} for 'João/Joao Henrique Pataco Tomás/Tomas' and 'João/Joao Henrique Tomás/Tomas' and 'João/Joao Pataco Tomás/Tomas' and 'João/Joao Tomás/Tomas' -- missing accents should exist as redirects. -- 70.51.44.60 (talk) 06:23, 8 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
umm DGG said they are all useless, along with the next Portuguese speaking user - so this vote makes no sense. Can you clarify.Legacypac (talk) 11:57, 8 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Loss of the accents should be kept because {{R without diacritics}} due to the fact that this is English Wikipedia, and people are only expected to have English-language keyboards. The misapplication of accents (missing one or the other) should be kept for the same reason, since accents are foreign to English, so application of them will be spotty. The Portuguese name reasoning shows the double-barreled surnames, so keeping both for a redirect. If dropping one, then dropping the other of the pair of surnames should appear as a redirect. -- 70.51.44.60 (talk) 04:52, 9 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete ones not beginning with some form of "Joao" per nom; these are very common Portuguese names (not to mention Spanish, in some forms). Neutral on others. Johnbod (talk) 14:55, 9 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Another redirect that looks like a full name, but is not. Its a bad idea actually - this person is not Hillary or Jeb Legacypac (talk) 07:34, 7 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The first is both misspelled and appears like a person's full name. Scond is a partial title match anyway so not helpful for searches on site. Both are poor redirects.Legacypac (talk) 07:32, 7 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

No reason to believe anyone would use this Neelix redirect to find the target using his first and middle name. Legacypac (talk) 07:25, 7 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep all a decent number of hits in the last month, more than a tenth of the hits on Franz-Joseph Müller von Reichenstein have come via one of these redirects. Given that the article refers throughout to him as "Müller", it doesn't appear to be his middle name as I would understand it. The issue is clouded very slightly, as some of the hits might have been looking for Franz Josef Müller, which doesn't have an English equivalent article, but that would only suggest that these redirect to a disambiguation page if an article is started on Franz. Harrias talk 07:46, 7 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep. as above; I doubt the ed. who wrote these paid much attention to whether or not the names were plausible, but some of them turn out to be. DGG ( talk ) 18:56, 7 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment isn't Reichenstein the name of his fief? The baron of Reichenstein? -- 70.51.44.60 (talk) 06:32, 8 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Reluctant Keep Yes, he only added the "von Reichenstein" at the age of 46 when ennobled. But I very much doubt that most people ending up here via redirects were lokking for this obscure 19th-century mining engineer, given the many modern Franz-Joseph Müller's around: https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=Franz-Joseph+M%C3%BCller .... No reason to believe anyone will search for the target by his middle name. Neelix creation, part of pattern of redirects that pull together different parts of people's names in weird ways Legacypac (talk) 07:23, 7 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed, only good option. I completed the retarget, so this can be closed. Legacypac (talk) 22:56, 10 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Didn't seem apporiate to create redirect, someone should bother to create an article. The page was created as advert. John123521 (Talk-Contib.) RA 06:55, 7 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep I vote for keep the redirect, because I think Dot Kim Domain is (currently) not notable enough (i.e., .xyz and .club are famous enough, or even .red is more popular than .kim) to write its Wikipedia article . --Love Krittaya (talk) 16:25, 7 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

"Yellow Sunday" isn't mentioned at the target article. My search is dominated by a 1988 NHL game (although it could be my filter bubble, I'm a hockey fan), and I couldn't find a good place for this. -- Tavix (talk) 05:55, 7 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete I tried searching the term and the name together - can't connect them at all. Legacypac (talk) 10:19, 7 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete The connection is here, but it is extremely tenuous for a redirect. If anything, Yellow Sunday should redirect to Jan Lokpal Bill, but I don't think it is needed at all. Harrias talk 10:28, 7 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
"One-day fast by Mumbai residents. Around 6,000 Mumbai residents also began a one-day fast in support of similar demands. Protesters chose yellow as their colour and were seen wearing yellow dresses, T-shirts while waving yellow banners. Inter city protest co-ordination is underway to observe Yellow Sunday."
