Template:Rtl[edit]

The result of the discussion was retarget. --BDD (talk) 20:03, 11 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Retarget to Template:Rlm. "ltr" and "rtl" are a pair in html managing bi-directional text (right-to-left for English, left-to-right for Arabic). The corresponding Unicode characters are {{lrm}} and {{rlm}} (see also the documentation). At the moment {{ltr}} redirects to that Unicode character(-template) as expected. But the current target {{rtl-para}} returns a different, formatted string (bidi-related). This retargeting would make the usages parallel and closer to intuition.
Not used in mainspace now. Current target stays untouched. DePiep (talk) 12:45, 25 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Retarget per nom DePiep. Makes sense. Quite understandable it's rarely used: ideally shouldn't need to be. ({{lrm}}/{{ltr}} is used a bit more, my random selection from WhatLinksHere suggests mostly in the brief dates in the first sentence of bios of Jewish people, after their Hebrew name). Godzilla blue oyster cult[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more redirects. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the redirect's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was Withdrawn. Lenticel (talk) 00:27, 30 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Blue Öyster Cult is always caps in various Rs without the prissy diaresis, but marked properly as R from without diacritics etc, rightly, per WP:TITLE and WP:BAND.

This is unlikely, then, being lowercase and without diaresis. Can't really mark as {{R from title without diacritics}} or {{R from other capitalization}} when Godzilla Blue Öyster Cult is a redlink.

In a word: Lazy. Si Trew (talk) 08:37, 25 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • strong keep. People are lazy - this is used between 130 and 350 times every month, so it should not be a redlink. Just because something doesn't neatly fit into our arbitrary classification scheme is absolutely not a reason for deletion. Thryduulf (talk) 10:37, 25 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • strong keep. This is only intended to help users quickly get to the page that they are obviously looking for, which is the song "Godzilla" by BOC. This is intended for all users to use as a quick search term, including users who (as noted above) are too lazy to use the caps key (or, for that matter, who may not even know what an umlaut is, metal or not). What we really should do is makes sure we have redirects for Godzilla Blue Öyster Cult, Godzilla Blue Oyster Cult, Godzilla blue oyster cult, Blue Öyster Cult Godzilla, Blue Oyster Cult Godzilla, Blue oyster cult godzilla, etc. that all point to Godzilla (song). In short, I don't see how it does any harm, and as noted above, it has proven helpful to users searching for the song's article. (BTW, while we're at it, we should disambiguate somehow between the article for the BOC song, and the article Godzilla!, which is for a song by The Creatures.) Please let me know if I can comment further. KConWiki (talk) 13:38, 25 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Withdraw and Speedy close please. Probably just a case of WP:IDONTLIKEIT on my part. Si Trew (talk) 21:42, 25 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment: Just let me mention that I appreciate the attention that all parties have given this, and that I appreciate the important contributions you make to WP. To wrap this up, I am going to create redirects to Godzilla (song) for all the currently redlinked variations of BOC/Godzilla listed above, and I am also going to drop some notes on the talk pages of the articles for the similarly named songs by BOC and The Creatures to ask what sort of disambiguation is appropriate. I will also (at least for the time being) put a {{for}} tag at the top of each, referring to the other. Thanks KConWiki (talk) 16:04, 26 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep - directs readers to the content they're clearly looking for, no argument has been presented for deletion. WilyD 11:33, 28 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
