Soft redirect off Wikipedia Magioladitis (talk) 21:53, 21 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Delete: I don't think that a soft redirect to a site that we don't even consider to be a reliable source is a valid item to have in article space.—Kww(talk) 21:56, 21 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Keep: It is a destination that is usable as a valid external link per Wikipedia:External links/Perennial websites#IMDb, IMDb is used as an external link in most actor, movie and TV articles; and it is not being used as a reference. It's use here is similar to its use in the external links section of any article. It is being used to avoid redlinks to personal name and to identify the person that the name belongs to. IMDb is listed in m:interwiki map as a valid interwiki link. The guideline article WP:Soft redirect as written does not restrict links in soft redirects to Wikipedia destinations as asserted in the nomination justification. This soft redirect adds value to the project and there is no negative impact to the project for this use. Geraldo Perez (talk) 22:19, 21 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Delete We shouldn't ever redirect completely off-wiki. IMDB is fine as an external link, but never as a redirect. The principle of least astonishment applies - none of our users are expecting a redirect like this, they already know to check IMDB for info, and if they see the name here they expect an article. • Delete not a WP:SISTER site, so is an invalid external link soft redirect. WP:REDLINK if she should have an article, she should be redlinked -- 76.65.128.222 (talk) 06:44, 22 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Speedy delete all Using a Wikipedia page to do nothing but promote an external website is self-evidently a bad idea. Policies and guidelines do not list every possible way that Wikipedia might be misused, and anyone with WP:EL experience knows that these pages should all be deleted. Johnuniq (talk) 01:22, 23 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Speedy Delete is no good once it is listed for discussion. But since the target is now deleted, the redirect might as well go. Will CSD that. Si Trew (talk) 02:07, 28 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete this would be better as a redlink to encourage the possible creation of an article. Redirecting (soft or not) off Wikipedia (and sister sites) is not a good idea. Callanecc (talkcontribslogs) 03:00, 28 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Nobody is ever going to use this as a search term Mogism (talk) 20:21, 21 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete It's not 2008 any longer, and the Wilfred Brimley meme should be dead and buried already. Nobody will use this. Nate (chatter) 01:02, 26 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Weak keep The traffic stats tell a similar story, there is a bunch of activity around the nomination and only a little throughout the year. However I can't see a reason per WP:RFD#DELETE to delete the redirect. They are cheap and this one isn't doing any damage. Callanecc (talkcontribslogs) 02:55, 28 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
