Algonquin Hotel MartiniAlgonquin Hotel[edit]

The result of the discussion was delete. Wizardman 18:24, 23 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Delete - highly unlikely search term as the drink is called "Martini on the Rock", not "Algonquin Hotel Martini". No useful edit history that needs preservation. Article was created as a copyvio in 2005 and, as I did the revision of the hotel article that inserted the information on the martini, I can attest that I did not use any of the history in writing it. Not my daughter, you bitchHarry Potter and the Deathly Hallows[edit]

The result of the discussion was delete. Wizardman 18:25, 23 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Delete makes no sense. Simply south (talk) 16:46, 14 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • Neutral actually, it does make sense, I'm just not sure appropriate. The line is said by Molly Weasley during the fight with Belatrix Lestrange in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows when she jumps into the fight that Ginny Weasley (her daughter) and others are having with Belatrix. It is one of the two uses of the word bitch in the HP books, the other one is in Prisoner of Azkaban when Vernon Dursley's sister describes the reasons for Harry being odd due to comparing it with Dog Breeding:"if there's something wrong with the bitch, there's something wrong with pup"Naraht (talk) 16:56, 14 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete while it is a quote out of the book, it is a highly unlikely search term. tempodivalse [☎] 03:10, 15 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • Speedy delete per criterion R2 (redirect from mainspace to userspace). I have tagged it. Gavia immer (talk) 15:10, 14 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hm. I only figured out how to propose it for delete, not speedy. How did you do the speedy? Also, it did get deleted.Naraht (talk) 16:47, 14 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

You can tag such pages as {{db-rediruser}} - just type that exact text at the top of the page in question, and some administrator will come along and delete it with no further fuss. See Wikipedia:Criteria_for_speedy_deletion#Marking_an_article_for_speedy_deletion for the general procedure. Gavia immer (talk) 17:37, 14 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hollywood of the eastTamil cinema[edit]

The result of the discussion was delete. Wizardman 18:26, 23 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It is a unreferenced WP:POV and WP:PEACOCK. Redtigerxyz Talk 13:49, 14 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete If Tamil Cinema is referred to as Hollywood of the east by notable reliable sources, it can be discussed in the article. redirect is not justified until the notability is extremely high and a new article can not be created. --Like I Care 20:04, 14 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete We shouldn't be making things up on wikipedia. --RegentsPark (My narrowboat) 20:25, 14 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete A simple google search (Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs· FENS · JSTOR · TWL) shows Connecticut, Rhode Island, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Egypt etc being labeled "Hollywood of the East". So the redirect to Tamil cinema is certainly inappropriate. If the page is to be retained, it should be a disambiguation page. Abecedare (talk) 20:35, 14 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete - I turned the fork of Tamil cinema into a redirect, but the nom and comments here all make valid points. It will almost certainly be re-used in the future though, by fans of Tamil/CT/RI/HK/etc cinema(s). Is it possible to turn it into a dab page, without lots of inappropriate refs on the dab?MuffledThud (talk) 22:24, 14 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Convert to dab linking to Bollywood, Kollywood, Tollywood, and/or any other major manufacturer of Eastern cinema that has reliably been referred to as "Hollywood of the east". -- Blanchardb -MeMyEarsMyMouth- timed 22:57, 14 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Note that a google search on "Hollywood of the East" lists Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Prague, Ithaca, Connecticut, Wilton Manors (Florida), Hong Kong, and this is all on the first page of the 12,800 results. Doubtless, almost every city east of LA, which includes almost every city in the world, has some reference claiming that it is the Hollywood of the East. Even a dab page makes no sense. --RegentsPark (My narrowboat) 03:23, 15 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete altogether. A Google search shows that Tamil cinema is not at all prominent among the various "Hollywood of the East"s (as in 0 of the first 40 results). If a disambiguation page is created, it's arguable that Tamil Cinema should even be included. Priyanath talk 03:00, 15 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Dont delete the page. Please query in google for 'hollywood of the east tamil' You get a plenty of results.
Tamil movies have been very extra ordinary and creative. Music directors like AR Rehman, Ilayaraja and actors like Kamal,Madhavan have international popularity. This link (http://www.indiaglitz.com/channels/tamil/article/45578.html ) shows that the tamil film Yavarum Nalam by Madhavan is remade into hollywood by oscar winner Kate Winslet.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Guru coolguy (talkcontribs)
  • Donot delete this redirect. When you query for hollywood of the east in Google, google neglects the word 'of' and hence shows Geographical locations that is East of Hollywood. Please query with 'hollywood' + Tamil you get plenty of results.Hollywood and Tamil are extremely talented and have a lot of coincidence. Guru coolguy.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Guru coolguy (talkcontribs)
Note that if you drop the 'of' and the 'the', i.e., you search for Hollywood East, you get our wikipedia page Hollywood East. Which, as you can see, has nothing to do with Tamil cinema. --RegentsPark (My narrowboat) 13:46, 15 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Guru coolguy, searching Google for the phrase "Hollywood of the East" (WITH QUOTES) gives 11,900 results, with none of the top 40 mentioning Tamil cinema. If you add "Tamil" outside the quotes, you get 260 results. That means that approx. 2% of the Google results for the phrase "Hollywood of the East" even mention the word "Tamil". That equals 'delete. Comment: please note that this discussion is WP:NOTAVOTE, and placing comments twice will not sway the discussion in your favor. MuffledThud (talk) 13:27, 15 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • All the Indian movies suck, whether Tamil or Hindi. There is no quality. I dont think anyone with any level of any common sense would ever refer to Indian movies as Hollywood of the east, atleast in terms of quality. (the occasional good ones like Dil Chahta Hai and Naan Kadavul dont count) Mr "Guru Coolguy", the words Hollywood and Tamil movie appearing on the same google hits doesnt make Tamil movie "hollywood of the east". --Like I Care 12:38, 15 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
"Like I Care": Your POV about Indian movies isn't relevant for this discussion, and your inference that Guru coolguy doesn't have "any level of common sense" borders on a personal attack. Priyanath talk 15:04, 15 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Dont Delete : Hello RegentsPark,as i said, google is displaying only the GEOGRAPHICAL locations. it is not taking the context while searching. But if you search with 'Hollywood' + 'Tamil' you get a lot of articles which can be sufficient to justify this. Mr.Likeicare, you know in the reference i provided, Tamil movie Yavarum Nalam is remade in Hollywood. Please see movies like Dasavatharam, Ayutha Ezhuthu and then comment on it. Also Tamil cinema has the highest number of good talents in Music, Camera, Graphics and direction., next to Hollywood.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Guru coolguy (talkcontribs)
If you search Hollywood + Tamil you will, of course, get a whole lot of articles. However, the article title is "Hollywood of the East" and, if you search that exact phrase, Tamil cinema gets no mention that I can see. Like I said, Hong Kong, Prague, Connecticut, etc. etc. are all described as "Hollywood of the East", and apparently more often than Tamil cinema, so the redirect is not justified. BTW, if I search by - Hollywood Tamil "Hollywood of the East" - I still only see references to the wikipedia page (and gurucoolguy!). It's not a question of the quality of Tamil cinema but rather whether we should be inventing phrases of our own or not. --RegentsPark (My narrowboat) 15:46, 15 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
(To Priyanth) It is not entirely my opinion. some sensible people share similar opinion. Even if it is purely my opinion, I believe, i am allowed to opine on talk pages related to the topic at hand. I believe everyone here has done that some time or other during their time as a wikipedia editor. The "common sense comment" was directed at secondary sources (if it existed), not at Guru coolguy. But, i agree it can be misunderstood, for that, my apologies to Guru coolguy. --Like I Care 15:47, 15 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
LOL, far from confirming your POV that "All the Indian movies suck", in that article Kashyap goes as far as saying that Indian cinema is "immature" (he says "our critics are worse" hmmmm.... ;-) ). But then he praises Indian cinema: "I feel there are a lot of films from down South that are good". I wonder if he's talking about the "Hollywood of the East".... Priyanath talk 04:43, 16 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete this could easily refer to New York City and the studios that used to exist there before the primacy of Hollywood. 70.29.213.241 (talk) 05:06, 16 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
It's curious but we don't seem to get many hits for NYC, London, Paris when searching for "Hollywood of the East". Maybe the cinephiles in those cities consider the appellation infra dig. Abecedare (talk) 05:48, 16 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Or infra Digg? :) MuffledThud (talk) 06:09, 16 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Further data: If we restrict our search to Google books: most of the hits (by far) are for Shanghai or Hong Kong; with one or two each being for Egypt, Orlando, Bombay/Bollywood, Chennai etc. My suggestion ... instead of trying to argue for "Tamil cinema = Hollywood of the East", we should try implanting the "Hollywood = Tamil cinema of the West" meme through wikipedia. :) Abecedare (talk) 05:44, 16 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Didn't I hear something somewhere about evidence of Indian cinema in ancient India, long before Hollywood? So that may be true :-). (making fun of myself.) Priyanath talk 14:56, 16 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed for speedy deletion by 41.213.126.5 (talk · contribs) as " Incorrectly named paged, quickly changed to her correct name." Fails CSD, so I'm listing it here. SoWhy 09:24, 14 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • Write the article or Delete. It appears there's some confusion over a Chinese (PRC) pop singer named Teresa Wong Huqin, whose name dominates search engine results, and this Teresa Wong, a Chinese (ROC) classical musician whose instrument is sometimes called a huqin. Both do seem to exist- Teresa Wong Huqin is apparently the ringtone spam of the minute in Asia- so we need to make sure we don't confuse them or contribute to confusion. The best result is probably to write an article on Teresea Wong Huqin, who seems notable; but in any case, we need to get rid of the redirect. Gavia immer (talk) 15:07, 14 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Main Page/Sandbox was deleted and protected for no apparent reason, but I assume it was because it was not an appropriate redirect. If that page was deleted for the same reason, then Main Page/Errors should also be deleted. If Main Page/Errors should be kept, then I would like to know if Main Page/Sandbox should stay deleted or be restored. -- IRP 02:23, 14 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
