Shane Short → Dunning-Kruger effect[edit]
I can't find any link between the redirect and the target — neither in the article, nor online, which makes it confusing. I'm happy to be proven wrong, though. Schutz 06:25, 23 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- Delete unless someone comes up with a connection and documents it in the target article. There's been a rash of non-sequitur redirects lately. Xtifr tälk 06:00, 24 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- Delete, no mention in target article, no explanation why this should be here. EdJohnston 20:26, 26 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- Delete Redirects which serve as little more than head-scratchers are counterproductive. --Aarktica 18:59, 27 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
2007 Oscars → 80th Academy Awards[edit]
I think this and associated redirects should be changed so the year in the redirect name reflects the year of the ceremony (in this case, that would be 79th Academy Awards (the 2007 ceremony) as when someone talks of "The 2007 Oscars" ("2007 Oscars" being a likely search term) they will normally be talking of the ceremony in that year. I understand the reason for redirecting to the 2008 ceremony, as that ceremony will predominantly concern 2007 films, but I think this is a flawed reason, as Oscar ceremonies can sometimes recognise films made two years before so the only way to guarantee consistency in this area would be to make the redirect concern the year of the ceremony. - Retarget per nom. I agree. Shalom Hello 21:21, 23 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- Comment: Note that although the 2007 Oscars refer actually to the 79th academy awards, the 79th academy awards is an event to celebrate the movies from the previous year, or, in this case 2006. -- Loukinho 06:05, 24 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- Retarget to List of Academy Awards ceremonies#Ceremonies instead. Contrary to the nom, I think of the 2007 Oscars as being the awards honoring films released in 2007, not the ceremony held in 2007 honoring films released in 2006. But I doubt we can reach a consensus on that issue that would satisfy everyone here, much less all the readers who may use this redirect in the future. So I think we should retarget the redirect to the list of Academy Awards ceremonies, from which users can select the ceremony they actually have in mind. --Metropolitan90 07:04, 24 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- Retarget per Metropolitan90. Good idea. Maybe just retarget to List of Academy Awards ceremonies instead. -- Loukinho 18:51, 24 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- Retarget to List of Academy Awards ceremonies#Ceremonies. As there seems to be disagreement as to whether the 79th or 80th award ceremony would be what someone would be looking for, it seems best from a navigational point of view to take them to the full list so they can select the one they want. - Strong retarget. 2007 Oscars should refer to the 79th Academy Awards, not the 80th. Similarly, I vote for retargeting 2006 oscars, 2005 oscars, 2004 oscars, 2003 oscars, 2002 oscars, ... to 1985 oscars, all redirects created by User:Spangineer. Retarget to year of ceremony, not year of film. — Andy W. (talk/contrb.) 18:51, 30 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- Retarget As said above -- ChrisDHDR ; • contrib's 19:34, 30 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- Comment, especially to the closing admin: Sorry I did not see this discussion earlier, but these redirects were made this way due to a consensus at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Academy Awards#Linked years should reflect the year of the ceremony. Therefore, I would like this discussion to be relisted and continue for another week to see if more members from this WikiProject can comment. Thanks. Zzyzx11 (Talk) 03:13, 1 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- Comment, the articles to be discussed for retargeting include 1985 oscars to 2007 Oscars and for example 1950 Academy Awards and 2006 Academy Awards. — Andy W. (talk/contrb.) 15:46, 2 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- How about turning all of these redirects into disambiguation pages that list both years? Would that be feasible? --- RockMFR 01:03, 7 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- Comment: Example disambiguation:
2007 Oscars can refer to: * 79th Academy Awards, the Academy Awards ceremony that took place in 2007. * 80th Academy Awards, the 2008 ceremony honoring the best in film for 2007. disambigThe above is preserved as the archive of an RfD nomination. Please do not modify it.
