April 23[edit]
Virginia Tech college → Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University[edit]
There is no such place. There are two real names for the school - Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University and Virginia Tech. There are a handful of old names that the school used to go by like VPI and Virginia Polytechnic Institute. We were never Virginia Tech college (even if we were, the C would need to be capitalized) and having this as a blue link only encourages incorrect use. --BigDT (416) 15:21, 23 April 2007 (UTC)
- Keep - Still, someone might type that in, and, redirects are cheap, and there is no point in deleting them if they're not ridiculous. Cool BlueLight my Fire! 00:12, 24 April 2007 (UTC)
- Keep. Very likely search term. Redirects are not meant to be accurate names (otherwise we wouldn't keep redirects from common typos), they are merely a navigational aid. This one seems clearly helpful. WjBscribe 01:35, 24 April 2007 (UTC)
- Keep but tag appropriately. Unfortunately, we don't seem to have {{R from incorrect name}}, and {{R from alternate name}} seems a little weak, so I recommend {{R from misspelling}}, which is a bit of a stretch, but will at least place it in the "Unprintworthy redirects" category. - Keep -- As noted, it's a term someone might reasonably use when searching. After being redirected, the person can read the article and find out what the "real names" are. --Wordbuilder 14:39, 25 April 2007 (UTC)
- Keep It could definitely be used as a search term by someone who does not know the real name. Altosax456 20:31, 26 April 2007 (UTC)
- Keep. Likely search term. —dima/talk/ 03:49, 28 April 2007 (UTC)
University of Virginia Tech → Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University[edit]
There is no such place. There are two real names for the school - Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University and Virginia Tech. There are a handful of old names that the school used to go by like VPI and Virginia Polytechnic Institute. We were never University of Virginia Tech and having this as a blue link only encourages incorrect use. I speedied this name yesterday and a user contested it so I am bringing it here.
As a side note, there is also a Virginia Tech University redirect which is also incorrect, but that's useful as a "trap" redirect. I periodically go through and clean out everything linking to it and correct the name. Unfortunately, half of the news media covering recent events thinks that VTU is our correct name ... so we actually need VTU - but nobody calls us UVT. --BigDT (416) 15:21, 23 April 2007 (UTC)
- Keep as above. People are reasonably likely to search under this title (especially given media inaccuracies). Redirects are there to help navigation, not educate people as to the precise name for things. WjBscribe 01:37, 24 April 2007 (UTC)
- Keep -- For same reason I gave in above section. --Wordbuilder 14:39, 25 April 2007 (UTC)
- Keep as per my above reason Altosax456 20:33, 26 April 2007 (UTC)
Error (computing) → Error message[edit]
Computer is not a verb. I made a redirect that makes more sense. Error (computer), it makes no sense to use computer as a verb. TheBlazikenMaster 12:53, 23 April 2007 (UTC)
- Keep. Use of Computing to describe the general practice of computer usage is very common, actually [1]. There's nothing wrong with Error (computer) as a redirect, but I think Error (computing) is a better one. Gavia immer (talk) 15:20, 23 April 2007 (UTC)
- Google search doesn't prove wether or not computing is a verb. As there can be a lot of bullshit pages from Google searching. Anyway, I think I'll Withdraw this nomination because I was wrong. Damn it, why do I often do things wrong? TheBlazikenMaster 19:57, 23 April 2007 (UTC)
