The photo is suitable for Wikipedia because Wikipedia is loosely speaking a news medium - just like for example, the English newspaper the Daily Mirror, which like Wikipedia does cover both recent things, and not-so-recent things such as the Great Patriotic War. It is far from clear that any photos taken in recent times in Ukraine are suitable Wikipedia Commons, because Commons considers limited rights of use to be unacceptable. Having laws that restrict use of photographs is very useful, just like laws that restrict use of cigarettes - as with cigarettes, you can have absolute rights of ownership, but restrictions on use. The kind of use made on Wikipedia is allowed.--Toddy1 (talk) 20:32, 11 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
